06 December meeting

Hey why is that guy smiling? And why is she running? Reckon ya never know what is going to happen when you get a few whacked out freedom fighters together. Just love it when people get together. Just hope all these sick folk around lately get better before Christmas (is that a politically correct word?).

Some ABATE folk over in Panama city, FL had a dynamite idea about putting motorcycle awareness signs up under stop signs at intersections. Well actually for them its not an idea, they are doing it. As soon as we can get some of those signs were going to try it here in Tallahassee and surrounding area's (after getting permission from the local powers to be of course).

The idea was so great in fact we thought we had the FL STATE ABATE BOD on Board. At least that was my understanding at the last meeting. As a matter of fact I thought I heard someone say do it? Appears though they have changed they're minds in favor of Billboards (look up, take your eyes off the road. Much better than having a sign staring you right in the face like at a stop sign. Wonder which is more expensive?) and radio spots on stations in the boonies (in this neck of the woods anyway). Lord knows you wouldn't want someone sitting at a stop sign to be looking straight at a sign that says "watch for motorcycles". No matter, a good idea is a good is a good idea and some times ya just gotta go with your gut. I'm reminded of a saying by Ben Franklin, "we have no rules here-we are to busy doing something". I don't understand why you wouldn't want those signs in PC though. Theres a lot of military folk over there that ride sport bikes. You would think we would want to keep our troops as safe as possible when they are home. You would think that a sign saying watch for motorcycles staring you right in the face at an intersection might safe a life or two and be a little more effective than hidden billboard. You would think we would want as many of those signs as we can get placed all over the state of Florida. You would think that wouldn't you? Ah maybe thats the problem. I think.
