Attended Senate Transportation committee meeting this am. Knew cell phone gig would not be on agenda but wanted to take the opportunity to hand deliver our info. After the meeting hand delivered a 4 plus page point and citation document composed of information contributed by the persons on this forum (Bruce and Ray's, see link under guess, links), to each of the Senators on the committee offices. Thanks all. Though due to scheduling was only able to get to the aides. A number at least appeared supportive (one even told me he threw his cell phone away and another that he has been researching info re this subject for a for a year). Was able to catch up w/ Senator Bullard (introduced one of the bills) as she was entering the ladies room. Her words of wisdom. "Make a lot of noise", "Don't let up". My hope is that if we can make enough noise we can get it addressed next meeting. There is a large backlog of bills to be heard, but they slammed through a large number today
Of note, the Insurance Bill S984 that would replace PIP with a tort reform system and increase coverage demand considerably appears to have (my impression) much opposition from the committee and was not passed out of committee at this time. The SMRO pres was there and spoke maybe a minute on the issue about the potential rewording of any bill to include MC's with 4 wheel vehicles and potential rate hikes. He also congratulated the committee on a choice of a particular kind of license plate. It appeared that Senator Margolis (sp) is adamantly against this bill and intimated that it could be an end run by insurance companies because PIP sunsets this year (However PIP hearings were being held at the same time by a different committee).
I would take Senator Bullard at her word. Make a lot of noise........rc
