Hippa Update and other stuff

As reported in our newsletter posted on the 13th (see5-13 post for the link) theres a good chance that the federal loophole in the HIPPA act has a chance to be fixed this year. However it's going to need some help. Meaning YOU, need to write your Florida representatives in Washington (as of this date none of them have signed on as co-sponsors for this correction) asking them to please close the loop hole in the HIPPA act that allows insurance companies to discriminate against motorcyclist who are involved in an accident. In the US house the bill number is HR 1076 In the senate it is S 616. You can go to
the AMA rapid Response center here for the easiest ways to contact your federal reps and do not have to be a member to use the service.

USA TODAY Reports 2005 11% of fatal crashes involved drivers 65 or older and that by the year 2030 with the aging of the baby boomers that these individuals will be responsible for 25% of all fatal crashes.

And Girl Geek submits a story from the Charleston city paper HERE that reports how many parking garages in the city have banned motorcycles because of liability fears should the gate (you know the ones that go up and down up and) come down and whack em one (I personally believe that it might have something to do with the sound of motorcycles setting of car alarms and I only suspect this cause once after discovering how it worked I went down 6 floors of a parking garage seeing just how many I could set off. Yes I know it was juvenile, immature, irresponsible and just re-enforces the negative stereotype of motorcyclists. But damn it were cool).

So how do these stories relate? Well ya best fire off a letter to one of them Senators (or two) and get this HIPPA gig squared away so you can be covered when an old geezer stops just past the gate because he dropped the change from the gate keeper and you be close on his butt when that there gate thingy comes down and whacks your head off. Your survivors will appreciate. Ride free.
