Patriot Guard fundraiser for Cpl Cabaniss

It was a good day for Riding, Yepper, the weatherman said, "you get on that bike today your gonna drown" (well not quite in those words). But what the hell this August in Fl. If you don't get wet you ain't riding. But another Florida phenomena is that the weatherman is rarely right. So Sam and I were able to drive between the clouds to Highway 231 and back
maintaining dry.

Now why would we risk it? Well hell why not. Any day is a good day for riding. And if it ain't cold it's probably a good day to get wet.

Besides, Patriot Guard was having a cookout at the truckstop at the intersection of Hwy 20 and 231 to raise funds for Cpl. Cabaniss and family. And if you can ride and get the opportunity to pay your respects,
well then that makes it all the better.

Only problems we ran into was one guy wanted to try a spell of tailgating and stupid me didn't have my stash
of rusty nuts and bolts with me.

And then there was that was one little incident of road kill. And I'm talkin "aged" road kill. Sam noted there is a difference between
Fl Road kill and northern road kill
that hasn't has the opportunity to bake in the Florida sun all day. Yepper, that one damn near knocked me off my bike.

But that's what riding is all about isn't it? Never knowing whats around the next curve and getting to experience every bit of it.

A special thanks to the Patriot Guard
for all that they do. Respect, Honor and Service to those that serve for us.

Thats a good thing you know.

Ride Free and remember why you can and think about the day you may not be able to.

The truth beneath NHTSA's lies

The following comes from Warren, legislative rep for Street Bikers United Hawaii.

Due to space I can't print all of it. But I have found their site above to have lots of good info. and it is worth seeing what are brothers in sisters on the "island" are up to.

Recent Trends in Fatal Motorcycle Crashes: An Update
is 72 pages of charts and analysis from The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) based on the 10 years from 1995 to 2004. It should have been called Fabricating Trends in Fatal Motorcycle Crashes. Here's why:
So instead of starting out the report with a horrifying 89% increase in fatalities, NHTSA could have begun by saying that since 1980 motorcycle fatalities have dropped 22%. But then there's no crisis, and we wouldn't need to be saved, or at least not by them.

Blame the Rider - The undercurrent running throughout NHTSA's report is blame the rider. We are either too young, too old, too fast, too drunk, or the motor's too big. Certainly riders do die because of one or a combination of those. However, THERE ARE 75 CHARTS IN THIS 72 PAGE REPORT AND not one SHOWING RIDER FATALATIES CAUSED BY RIGHT OF WAY VIOLATIONS OF OTHER ROAD USERS!!!

NHTSA is as blind as a Right Of Way violator. What's worse is that, as taxpayers, we pay their undeserved salaries.!!!

All I can say is I'm glad people like Warren and The Girl Geek with there patience and ability to wade through this "stuff" (which I sometimes think bureaucracies do intentionally to keep you and I from doing it) enabling us to see the TRUTH beneath the LIES. Thanks guys (lady). rcAdd to Technorati Favorites

From the Bopper, 9-11

Bopper has sent me a note to let me know that a grass roots movement is catching on across the country to encourage every Home, Apt, Business, Office Building, whatever ( I would go so far as to add from the back of any motorcycle on the road that day) to fly the American Flag on that day. I'm thinking thats not a bad thing and would encourage all that can to do so. And as we remember those that were lost that day and their families, let us not forget the Katrina victims, many of whom remain victims.
Remember. there is a cost to ride Free...........rcAdd to Technorati Favorites
