We ride for them while they fight over seas.
Why are we not fighting to keep their home land free for their return?
The blogs, forums and other sites are still buzzing and ripping apart the current NTSB recommendations which were nothing but a mis statement of the flawed NHTSA statistics relating to motorcycle crashes and fatalities.
They have been torn apart and rightfully so. Some (not enough) have written letters calling for the NTSA chairmans removal. Of course we know that won't happen. But we can hope that they now know “some” are on guard and they may review their data a little more carefully prior to there next release.
The report is so flawed as to state, as if it is a new scientific revelation, that if a large car smacks a smaller motorcycle. The motorcyclist will probably be killed before the cage driver. Whoa, YOUR tax dollars at work.
The question was asked however, and does deserve much consideration, as to, “How can they get away with it?” “Elementary my Dear Watson” ( A piece of trivia, 4 words Sherlock never said), because they can.
It seems to this writer that the question may be restated as to “Why do we allow them to?”
Yes there are people ripping apart studies and writing letters. But not nearly enough to sway NHTSA, NTSB and a multitude of other governmental bodies into believing that they can not get away with it.
The numbers addressing these issues are tantamount to love bugs against a motorcycle windshield (which of course leads to another "why" question).
The Mainstream Media (left and right alike) whose constitutional obligation is to hold government accountable (which is why they where granted freedom of the press in the first place) has almost abandoned totally “investigative reporting” and like politicians who play the stings of their constituency, plays the strings of their own readers/listeners. After all if “FOX” truly were “Fair and Balanced” ol Billo (O'Riely) would have been canned ages ago.
As deplorable as this state of affairs may be. As despicable as politicians and news media alike have become. The blame is ours.
The lies we swallow and the “nothing we do” are not limited to motorcycle rights. They extend to the war, to Katrina, to domestic wiretapping..........ad infinitum.
And why? Because we have become fat and lazy and afraid. Because we allow it to happen. Because we settle for less than mediocrity we not only get less than mediocrity, we pay for it.
My suspicion, not many have looked to the future to calculate how high the price will be. And who will pay it? Us, as “we explain to our grandchildren what it use to be like to live in a country that was free” (Ronald Reagan). rc Don't Ride Free unless you mean it!Add to Technorati Favorites
