American Motorcycle Association gets it....Almost

AMA calls conclusions of new IIHS report misleading
A of interest to all a must read for sportbikers

Where can you find the strictest government regulations on motorcyclists in the United States? Not in any of the 50 states, but in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. Can it happen here?

And then, and thennnnnnn, tops it all of with.....are ya ready?

"Free 20-minute phone cards will be given to riders to be used to call for a safe ride home if needed." I ain't never needed to call anyone for a safe ride home. I ain't never been so drunk I couldn't just leave my bike wherever I forgot it or dropped it and hitchhike home or sleep on it.

"Our aim is to help spread awareness and encourage riders to use good judgment,” said Rob Dingman, AMA president and chief executive officer. “Educational programs like Keep Your Balance are crucial for decreasing the number of alcohol-related motorcycle crashes occurring today.” Billboards and banners will promote the campaign at this week's rally.

Yepper that billboard of a hot engine on a long road in the desert has made my ass so thirsty I'm bout to lose my balance. Used to be I always planned ahead. If I didn't have a 6'er stashed away somewhere before taking that long ride, I wasn't going.......well when it's time to relax, weve got the....................

Well hell I'm sure there heart is in the right place and they are genuinely concerned. My bet is that they could not find any other company willing to partner up with them on a don't ride under the influence campaign. Yeah, Im convinced. Lets all ride really freeeeeeeeeee.....rcAdd to Technorati Favorites

Whoa and Hang on (to your pocket book and privacy) for this ride

USA Today reports here, that "Beginning early next year, drivers in six states will begin testing a new way to pay for roads and transit: Commuters will be charged for the miles they drive rather than paying taxes on gasoline purchased".

Hello? And why are they doing this? Because those of us who drive fuel efficient vehicles (e.g. "motorcycles") apparently are not using enough gas?

"Americans are driving cars that get better mileage, and more are driving vehicles that use fuels taxed at lower rates than gasoline, such as ethanol, or making their own fuel and not being taxed. That means gas tax revenue isn't growing nearly as fast as the number of miles driven"

EXCUSE ME. Are we not encouraged to save "energy"? Now you already know don't you that there is no mention of differentiating between the miles that an SUV drives and the miles that a motorcycle drive? Of course not. We will pay the same as the gas hogs!!! IN fact we, us, you and I will be subsidizing SUV miles driven!!! Think on it!

Now, how would you get billed????

"Researchers from the University of Iowa Public Policy Center will install computers and satellite equipment in the vehicles of 2,700 volunteers — 450 each from Austin, Baltimore, Boise, San Diego, eastern Iowa and the Research Triangle region of North Carolina."

The government will track you of course.

Now for those of you who may read this and react with the incredulity with which I did. I mean like my initial reaction was. "ain't no way". Oh yeah, read the following.."way"

"It's not a question of if this is viable," says Iowa's Kuhl. "It's a question of when it becomes politically and socially viable to make such a large-scale shift." Riding Free just took on a whole new meaning...Guess I'll go by that "Hummer" now. rcAdd to Technorati Favorites
