Which then gets promptly whacked off and and turned into turtle soup. Which may cause one to wonder about the attributions of the
"aphrodisiac" qualities of the turtle soup. Is it the defeating of an animal encased in a hard shell or the action of the whacking off of the head?
Although
survival is not necessary and is merely the popular choice, like it or not sooner or later ya gots to stick you neck out if you wish to get from point A to point B. You know like from couch to refrigerator for a beer and back to the couch before the commercial is over (unless of course you can get your lady to do it, which could be the riskier action).
Now to some the above may be a great achievement, or just a part of daily life. As always our differences in perception will lie in our individual experience and genetic makeup. Some (perceptions that is, along with thoughts, ideas and opinions) of which we will share with others and some of which, we will never share for fear of the
“are you freaking nuts” look and banishment from whatever society within a society we have diligently sought out to protect ourselves, from those that may believe differently than ourselves.
Now as comfortable and non threatening as this may be, for some it is downright boring. And not really good for society as a whole. Not that it really matters much. After all if the game we are watching, rather than participating in, lasts long enough we can probably get enough of whatever anesthetizes us into our bloodstream to convince ourselves that it is "o.k." not to give a damn. After all, I got my 52 inch, high definition, plasma T.V. You get yours.
But I must point out (at the risk of proving the individual who asked me yesterday evening, “you make a lot of enemies don't you?” correct) 24th US Vice president, Adalai Stevonsens
observation: “All progress has resulted from people who took unpopular positions”.
Aha, I can hear thoughts churning now, the bitch has either got a new supply of 9 volt batteries or is off his meds again.
But just humor me for a a bit. Or if not, it's ok. I'll humor myself (something I am well practiced at doing and would bet am not alone. Ask you wife, husband or whoever).
Often when I think about things. Which is really not all
that often, BUT when I do, I like to look to “Thoreau” for either inspiration or clarification (which usually means my nine volt batteries have run out of juice) and find this thought from him, if not inspirational or clarifying, at least interesting,
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”See, I'm getting
older now. I'm not yet willing to surrender to
old despite the proclamations of some and protestations of others. And though convinced by the number of times I must use a “come along” to get out of bed in the morning that I have lived, I have often wondered, “have I lived enough?” (ever wonder that?)
My hope would be the answer to that question will always be “no”. But find myself increasingly wondering regarding paths chosen in the past and paths yet to be chosen.
Is it imperative that one follow or pursue truths??? Are there any truths or can we just make them up as we go along (which does seem to be the tendency of the day now doesn't it)?
Consider the following :
“The spirit of the age cannot be compassed by the processes of human reason. It is an inclination, an emotional tendency that works upon weaker minds, through the unconscious, with an overwhelming force of suggestion that carries them along with it. To think otherwise than our contemporaries think is somehow illegitimate and disturbing; it is even indecent, morbid or blasphemous, and therefore socially dangerous for the individual.”and then add this:
"The psychologist must also remember that certain religious convictions not founded on reason are a necessity of life for many persons. Both from Carl Jung “Modern Man in Search of a Soul, 1933”. AHA!!! There it is..... the answer....
lies are necessary for life! Which explains why my third wife will outlive my damn turtle. And probably a few other things.
But ask yourself this? Only of course if you can gain your own attention long enough to do so. Could it be possible that this could explain in some part why those of us who choose to stick our head in the sand (
no I'm not talking about you) do so, OR why those who suspect certain truths may be afraid to cop to them (
and no I'm not talking about you either. Though I may be and just afraid that if I say I am you will read no further if in fact you have read this far. If you have I congratulate you upon having busted through time barriers placed on us by those who would prefer that we do not think).
Because I am now going to add to this little missive, are your ready for this???
A freaking 12 volt rechargeable lithium battery (don't make me pull out my plug in stuff). Now I'm sure most people are aware that many of the foundations of our own country's documents of liberty have connections to the French revolution. Yes I am. I'm sure of it. Just ask me. So consider the following From
BOOK II CHAPTER I:
Tocqueville, I believe, was the first to perceive as much.
``The French Revolution,'' he wrote, ``was a political revolution which operated in the manner of and assumed something of the aspect of a religious revolution. See by what regular and characteristic traits it finally resembled the latter: not only did it spread itself far and wide like a religious revolution, but, like the latter, it spread itself by means of preaching and propaganda. A political revolution which inspires proselytes, which is preached as passionately to foreigners as it is accomplished at home: consider what a novel spectacle was this.''AND:
"The power of a political assembly resides, above all, in the weakness of its adversaries. Astonished by the slight resistance encountered, and carried away by the ascendancy of a handful of orators, the Constituent Assembly, from its earliest sessions, spoke and acted as a sovereign body. Notably it arrogated to itself the power of decreeing imposts, a serious encroachment upon the prerogatives of the royal power".Now I ain't the brightest knife in the drawer so I had to look up this word “
arrogated” defined as: “
take or claim something for oneself without justification”
Helloooooooo, now it is my bet a "bingo" or maybe an "A HA!" just went of in the heads of some, cause I'm bettin one or two (
you know the one or two that read this far) just figured out where I'm either coming from or going. Which is a good thing because now you can tell me. Oh yeah, wait a minute, think I gots it. Just have to clarify it a little by adding:
“Even in free societies people sometimes censor themselves, as there are many forces that prompt self-censorship. Although we may disagree with a colleague or boss, we may not feel it appropriate to question his or her judgment out of fear of professional sanction. Although we may not agree with a friend's opinion, we may not feel comfortable confronting him and risk hurting his feelings or making him feel silly or stupid. Even though we may favor a particular political candidate, we may refrain from expressing that opinion if we think that important others around us support a different candidate.”Which ain't a good thing because the same folk added this:
Hollander (1975)--- argued that the failure to express one's opinion uninhibited by the views of others is detrimental to society and threatens civil liberties, and that the free expression of ideas and opinions is necessary to maintain a free society.Freaking BINGO or "A HA" or "What the....."!!!!! In other words a lot of words to say what should already be obvious:
Re: the MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS MOVEMENT: If you do not Deal with the Elephant in the freakin living room it will not be long before you can't drink that beer in front of the T.V. Because you won't be able to see the TV through a “freakin” pile of ELEPHANT DUNG!!!And if ya can't see the T.V. how are ya gonna catch the two minute warning that the rest of your rights have been “arrogated” (you will have to excuse me for taking liberties with that word, but hell, now days yu gots to get yur liberties where you can)????????
Ah sweet fear and denial by which I cling to my illusions as a child to a security blanket. Soft though it may be, hard to give up though it may be, comforting as a shield from the darkness in which lurks many imaginary demons and an aide by which to cover eye's from the brightness of the dawn which reveals harsher realities. rc Ride Ree (hmmm let me see, how should we define that)
