Post from a Sportbiker (-J-)

The following and the pic is from -J-. A local Sport biker. Though I have never met personally met him we did talk on the phone one eve. It was a good conversation, educational for me but as I suspected, the only difference between many of them and many of us older geezer glider riders. Is there is no difference. Except maybe some of us don't bounce as good as we use to. I Hope -J- throws a few more posts and pics our way. You can find more of his postings on the Tallahassee SportBikers Syndicate which you can find in our link list. Ride Hard, Ride long, Ride Free.

I am a Biker

I am a biker. But not just a biker, I am a sportbiker.

Two sentences in and I know what you're thinking, 'This cat thinks he's special 'cause he rides a crotch rocket'.

Now that you've formed a conclusion, go back and read the first sentence. That's who I am. Just like you. I ride for the freedom that riding offers. I ride for the camaraderie that riding offers. I ride because I love riding.

Having said all of that, I realize that from your perspective I am nothing more than a ignorant squid on mission to piss off as many people as possible. But remember it wasn't that many years ago when all Harley/cruiser riders were considered outlaws and hooligans. I am neither and I doubt seriously that you are either.

When I encounter a cruiser rider I always show nothing but respect. That is a practice that is not always reciprocated. On many occasions I've offered the customary (though archaic) wave to a passing cruiser only to have the gesture returned with a one-fingered salute disguised as a wave. Likewise, pulling up to a stoplight next to a cruiser, I often get a complete snub or a look that equates to 'Who the Hell do you think you are, coming anywhere near me on that rice rocket!'

Do you really have disdain in your heart for sportbikers or are you merely reacting to us that way because that's what you believe is expected of you?

If it's true disdain I would ask only one thing of you. Next time you see me in a parking lot or at a bike night or wherever, come say hello and strike up a conversation, you know, find out a little about me before you cast judgment. I think you'll find for the most part that I am just like you. A regular Joe/Jane out for a ride on my scoot.

On the other hand, if you're being indignant just because that is what you believe is expected of you, there's probably not much I can do or say to change your mind. And that saddens me. Because underneath it all I am just like you. I am a biker.
