Tallahassee, Florida puts Veterans Parade on the back roads

Kudos to the organizers of the parade and all who participated for a job well done. And to the Capital City of Florida officials that determined honoring the Veterans would best be done on the back Road off streets, a big one finger salute.

My understanding was that that Veterans Day Parade could not be held on the main drag through town because in would inconvenience traffic. No matter because I can not think of any reason why a Veterans Day parade should not go through the center of town. Traffic or no.

Discount, just for a moment, the fact that we have many servicemen in the area that spent a whole heap more than a day fighting for this country we now have soldiers in Iraq pulling 15 month tours of duty with a short break and going back. Any one considered the inconvenience that might have on their lives? The lives of their families?

Government offices were closed today so parading by the capital would not disrupt government (though were they open, the government is quite capable of disrupting themselves).

The only businesses that were open today other than those that serve a vital purpose were those that might be afraid they might miss a buck if they closed for half a day. But then as someone said at the parade, if it ain't about politicians, lobbyists or FSU Football this town ain't goin out of their way for squat.

A suggestion for next year. City be damned, Parade in front of the Capital instead of behind it.
I for one will stop traffic and I'm betting there be one or two others that would help. Then if the City wants to jail us for supporting Veterans, so be it!

Kudos again to all who participated. For more pics click here
