Is this a prelude to continue Florida war against motorcycles

Sent by GoldIron from WPCE news 12:

They zig and zag at high speeds, not on race tracks, but on popular roads throughout Palm Beach County. Speed bikers are taking their need for speed onto our roadways, endangering not only their lives, but the lives of every other driver they zoom by at over 100 miles per hour. The worst part about it is, police can't catch them.

CBS 12 rode along with Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies on several nights to get a first hand account of how big the problem is. During one ride along, CBS 12's cameras were rolling when we spotted a group of bikers doing double the speed limit on Military Trail near Forest Hill Boulevard. The deputy attempted to catch up. But in an instant, the bikers scattered and two of them took off at over 120 miles an hour, and disappeared into the night.

"we can't even catch up to the violators that are doing 90... and if they see us pull out... then they'll accelerate even further... and they'll get from 90 to 120 like that," said Deputy Stu Sussman, with PBSO. Read the rest here.

Then ask yourself. O.K. although the motorcycle seizure provision of HB137 the fines went up like really high. More than if you run over a motorcyclists and kill them. Yes in Florida it is still cheaper to kill a biker with your SUV than to hire a hit man. But if they can't catch them they can't fine them.

So is there underlying message here? Is somebody suggesting engine size be restricted (easily remedied by a creative mechanic)? Banning sport bikes maybe? Ah wait wait, would that not be discriminatory? Would they not have to ban all bikes?

Well to those that might say that will never happen remember, we were told HB137 would never pass by people that are supposed to know this stuff.Add to Technorati Favorites
