Another commisioner responds, it's getting HOT thanks to the people

Thanks for your e-mail. The Sheriff is an elected official just as I am and the Police Department works for the City Commission. As such, the County Commission has no jurisdiction over either office, but I share your concern. I'm aware that the Sheriff's Department previously provided this service for all funerals and encountered scheduling difficulties with funeral homes due to limited deputies and liability issues.

Considering that there hopefully would be minimal requirements for this type assistance, I'm encouraging the City and the Sheriff to identify options to allow this special military recognition for the men and women of our County and if there is a way the County Commission can partner with the two agencies, I'll be happy to present recommendations to the County Commission. Hopefully options can be identified to accord this special service. Thanks for sharing your concerns and let me know if I can be of help on other issues. Have a great day!
