From the Tallahassee Democrat with of course our totally objective unbiased observations:
The outcome of Saturday night's game may be uncertain, but Seminole fans can rest easy that traffic should be manageable.
Well now ain't that special. And the families of returning servicemen, alive or in a box, will spend a restless night worrying about getting their loved one home on a game day. Seems fair to me. Doesn't it seem fair to you?
Florida State University and the Tallahassee Police Department have reached agreement for overtime pay for the 100 or so officers who help with traffic at Seminole home games. And, unlike last year, Gaines Street will be a one-way street heading out of each game.
"We're in good shape and we've got an agreement for all of the games," said Paul Strouts, FSU's associate vice president of finance and administration. "This was a settlement that everybody's happy with."
FSU and the city had a dispute last year over $132,000 that the city said it was owed in overtime for eight home games in 2006.
Since then, FSU has settled the tab for $100,000, said Gary Williams, financial officer for the Police Department.
Last year, FSU paid $44,100 for five games. The new contract calls for FSU to pay $93,800 for seven home games, about 45 percent of the city's overtime expenses for the new season. The agreement is similar to years past, but instead of a 50-50 split the city will pick up the tab for its officers in specific lots and intersections and FSU will pay for the others.
WHAT????? HELLOOOOOO, anybody FREAKING out there? The city that is having to eat big bucks related to the defense of their handling of the Rachel Hoffman case and investigating the cases one of their officers apparently tampered with over a couple of years, either of which could result in hefty lawsuits, is going to eat $32 grand on top of the 50% of FSU's rightful debt they have been eating in the past?????
Not to mention the rerouting of traffic and the inconvenience to citizens who, believe it or not, may not give a damn about the FSU football team.
But then Football games bring money into the local economy don't they? And soldiers returning from foreign battle fields alive or in a box do not do they?
Chief Jones it is your duty to protect and serve? Who do you serve? You sir are a hypocrite and play fast and loose with the truth. The fact that you have not resigned brings dishonor not only to your city but to yourself.Add to Technorati Favorites
