Who authorized Alabama state troopers to exercise their police powers in Florida

(the invasion forces)

And what are the implications were questions that crossed my mind while writing the previous post.

Put aside for a moment if you will the Tallahassee Police Chief and other officials who have not had balls enough to speak out on thier disrespect of those who serve their country as asked. Discount for a moment if you can the fallacy of their argument that costs and public safety are their primary concerns and inhibits the cities ability to provide escorts. We don't buy this argument, as failure to do everything possible to reintegrate a war veteran into his/her home environment insures that the cost of community services will be higher down the road for not having done all that we could.

But by what legal authority does another state enter ours and start directing traffic? And what is the obligation of the citizens of this state to obey these "out of state police"?

We are not attorneys and googling the hell out of it has left us even more confused.

The city of Tallahassee police claimed fears of possible liability while providing an escort for returning servicemen. Who is liable if somebody is injured as the result of the actions of an out of state officer acting in an official capacity?

Do they not have to get permission to cross state lines to operate in an "Official" capacity? Who must they get the permission from? The Governor? The top law official of each county or municipality they had to travel through?

If Alabama was playing the Miami Hurricanes would Alabama have Carte Blanche to run every light from Miami to Alabama solely to inconvenience as little as possible football players while returning servicemen are left to fend for themselves?

Their is no question that our priorities are screwed up. But what are the ramifications of using
Police forces to enforce screwed up priorities?

The Rulers of Ancient Rome understood the need to pacify it's citizens with Colisium games while they sent their armies out to conquer the world. Is that what will be said when referencing "Ancient America?"Add to Technorati Favorites
