Four separate accidents involving motorcycles have been reported since Friday, local authorities have reported.

The first in the series of wrecks occurred at 7:48 p.m. Friday on Baileyton Road near its intersection with Babbs Mill Road, according to a report filed by Deputy Sheriff Charles Jessie.

His report said motorcyclist John T. Mallow, 49, of Kingsport, was injured when the 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was riding stuck the left side of a 1999 Ford Taurus driven by Gary Glover, 52, of Afton, while attempting to pass the car as Glover was trying to make a left turn off Baileyton Road onto Babbs Mill Road.

After colliding with Glover's car, the motorcycle plunged into a deep ditch off the side of the road.

Jessie said Mallow was transported by ambulance to Takoma Regional Hospital for treatment of what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Second Wreck

At 1:55 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, a second motorcycle accident took place on Tusculum Boulevard at Mt. Bethel Road.

According to a report filed by GPD Officer Davis Lewis, that collision occurred when a 1996 Buick Regal driven by Jeanette M. Hixson, 78, of Crestview Drive, attempted to turn from Tusculum Boulevard onto Mt. Bethel Road and pulled across the path of a 2003 Honda motorcycle ridden by Randall W. Roderick, 17, of Dulaney Road.

Roderick was taken by a Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Takoma Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries while Hixson escaped injury, according to the report.

Third Wreck

A third crash involving a motorcycle took place about 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Forest Street near Linden Street.

A report filed by GPD Officer David Thacker said the accident happened when a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Mary Ann Johnson, 31, of Forest Street, attempted to turn across the centerline of the road to park facing southbound along the street.

As she did so, according to the report, a 1996 Honda motorcycle being ridden by John Shipley, 39, of Birdwell Circle, Mosheim, swerved to avoid a collision with the Ford Explorer and "lightly" struck a parked 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier before crashing into a large trash can and a utility pole off the right side of the road.

Shipley was transported from the accident scene to Laughlin Memorial Hospital by a Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services ambulance, according to the report.

Fourth Wreck

At 9:44 p.m. Sunday, a fourth collision involving a motorcycle took place on Turner Hill Road in western Greene County.

A report filed by Deputy Sheriff Charles Jessie said the wreck took place when a 1980 Kawasaki motorcycle being ridden by Fay L. Church, 32, of 2335 Kingsport Highway collided head-on with a 1990 Ford Escort operated by Joshua A. Gaddie, 31 of Gilbreath Mill Road.

The report said Church, who was riding the motorcycle without its headlight operating, was thrown 36 feet from the point of the collision.

He was taken by a Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Takoma Regional Hospital for treatment of what were thought to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to Deputy Jessie.Add to Technorati Favorites
