As states across the country are introducing freedom infringement bills at warp speed MADD RAY from
Motorcyclist Against Dumb Drivers has come up with a capital idea.
"I'm going to urge it again as I have here a dozen times before - that the major motorcyclist associations, including AMA and MRF, in the interests of determining the truth for the benefit of their constituents, and our SMROs, in the interest of undermining the scientific dishonesty which characterizes the helmet law debate, all get together to chip in on a quality epidemiological review of the extant helmet "studies," incorporating a critical review of the methodology of each study, and then giving whatever weight, if any, to each study, that it deserves according to the settled and commonly accepted rules of scientific methodology and statistics."

Bruce and Rays Forum. An upside of the increasing numbers of people riding motorcycles is that it adds to the motorcycle brain pool, i.e. we have more people that are familiar with statistics, research , etc.
The end result being that that without any formalized or organized effort most of the studies that NHTSA now riding on the past glories of the NTSB (I say past because under their new mouthpiece is making mistakes out of character for this once respected agency.
See here) and other, we have been able to pretty much render many of there findings relating to motorcycle safety and helmet issues to be worthless. Primarily because they are based on such a flawed research model that they can NEVER be valid as long as NHTSA continues to rely on this model.
The ramifications of such a suggestion and the actual implementation would go far beyond the "Helmet" issue the the nannycrats can't seem to divorce themselves from. Once it is demonstrated that "helmets" are not the cure all panacea that legislators love to focus on as a way to avoid the real issues such as driver distraction and stiffer penalties they will be forced to address the real issues.
Imagine if you will an institution such as V-Tech that gave us one of strongest pieces of evidence that
driver distraction is in fact the problem (which NHTSA helped to fund
but loves to ignore) once and for all debunking the myth and affirming the reality.
There is a catch however, we would have to get off our asses and do it. Hmmmm.
Rightfully so Ray and others are expending much energy and resources on putting away the California law for good. This to will have ramification across the country as the state of California has engaged in numerous questionable practices to retain their authoritarian position. And Freedom must always be the first priority.
