A 58-year-old Crawfordville man was killed in a crash Sunday on U.S. 98 in Wakulla County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Gary Blake was riding his motorcycle, heading west on U.S. 98 around 7:45, when a Ford Ranger heading east made a left turn in front of him, FHP said.
Blake's motorcycle struck the SUV, which was driven by Julian Johnson, Jr., 45, of Tallahassee.
Johnson and his passenger, Christopher Foster, 26, of Southport, were both unharmed, but Blake, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead on the scene.
FHP determined Johnson was under the influence of alcohol at the time. He was arrested on charges of DUI/manslaughter and driving with a suspended license, causing death.
This frosts my cajone's!!!
"but Blake, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead on the scene."
Mr. Blakes death had nothing to do with the fact that he was or was not wearing a helmet!!! Mr. Blakes death was caused by a "DRUNK DRIVER" with a "suspended license turning in front of him"!!!
Why is this sentence even included? It has nothing to do with anything other than to lead the public to continue to buy into the myth that perhaps if Mr. Blake was wearing a helmet he would be alive today therefore laying part of the blame for his death on him. That is absurd and irresponsible. If a child runs out into the street and gets hit by a car does the paper report, "the child was not wearing a helmet?" Of course not!
If alcohol influenced, cell phone influenced and other negligent drivers would quit running over us or pulling out front of us or pulling into our lane we wouldn't be discussing helmets never mind the ignored primary causes of death in a motorcycle accident, Blunt Force Trauma to the body and "Bleeding out" for which a helmet offers no protection.Add to Technorati Favorites
The deaths will not stop until we stop the cause of death!
