Results of Criminal Justice meeting addressing Fl SB802 this date

This is a two part post. Before I could get back to the house the ABATE of Florida Spin machine was was in full swing. So I will offer ABATES posting as it appeared on Bruce and Rays Forum and my response appearing on same. Let those who have been following the monkey &#@! arrive at their own conclusions. If it haven't been following the history of this little adventure, then all I can say is those who do not study history are destined to repeat it:

Hot News from Doc - ABATE of Florida, Inc Lobbyist...

During the Criminal Justice Sub-Committee hearing today, ABATE offered an amendment to strike the confiscation portion of Senate Bill 802, and it has been accepted.

This has been one of the major arguments concerning both the House and Senate versions. Confiscation of personal property is always controversial, but more importantly, would cause third time offenders to become even more dangerous by trying to outrun or elude enforcement.

Now we need to see what the House version will do...

The above information has NOT yet been posted on the State of Florida Senate website, but should be available for review later today.

Mike

I was at the committee meeting this am. A senator did offer a last minute amendment, however the wording had already been changed on the committees website minus the seizure issue.

Garcia did at the end of the hearing on this issue thank DOC and ABATE for helping him on this bill. However I would wonder how much of a victory it is for Doc when it is exactly what we have been screaming about since Last September I believe it was, while Doc was calling the Bill dead and don't write or call your legislators.

I might also wonder if Doc is also aware that Garcia asked me to contact him?

It is also interesting to note that last week I informed the transportation comm. of the Florida Supreme Courts concerns re: vehicle seizures and the third court of appeals finding in January of this year that the City of Miami's seizure laws were unconstitutional on three counts to the possibility of having to pay back 12 million to the public. Sam also addressed the inadequacies of seizure laws. It could be, though God only knows when you have back room dealings, that the Criminal justice committee has a better grasp on these issues than the transportation committee.

I also remember the chair of the House infrastructure Quoting a letter from a policeman up north that sounded very much like a member of this forum and how that letter went a long ways towards his nay vote on HB137.

However if Doc wants to have the Glory of saying once again he saved the day all by his lonesome that be cool as long as he cops to the fact that part of the difficulty of this struggle has been his insistence that the bill was dead.

If it be our, the little peoples, destiny to hold the luminaries of the biker rights movement such as the MRF and the likes Riechenbachs feet to the fire to keep them honest then so be it.

The goal is freedom. No one man can claim credit for that except Jesus. Even the framers of the constitution and signers of the declaration of independence shared the credit.

So to Doc I offer my hearty Congratulations on the immediacy of your Victory announcement. rc

Note: If I read the what "was" presented correctly then the removal of MC endorsements and the Seizure of motorcycles is off the Table. HOWEVER, it ain't over, neither bill is finished and they can and do change these things at the last minute. We will have to read the final version before we can rest. Furthermore, there were only two persons present to speak on behalf of motorcyclists. That Biker Apathy my friends is what contributed to this fiasco and will in the end lose us our rights to ride. Ride Free and while your at it think about what you have done to earn that right. rcAdd to Technorati Favorites

Patriot Guard stands for KIA Charles Jankowski

Yesterday the Patriot Guard had the honor of standing for Specialist Charles Jankowski

Specialist Charles Andrew Jankowski, 24, of Panama City, Was killed by by an IED while on active duty with the U.S. Army in Iraq on Friday, March 28, 2008.

Four riders from Tallahassee were joined by 2 riders from Valdosta, Georgia to include 70+ yo Papa Joe who showed up with a banged, bruised, and stitched face the result of falling 9 feet off a ladder then having the ladder fall on him. Getting on and off his bike was no easy chore to say the least. But he made the hundred mile ride to here and then we headed to Panama City.

Pulling into the Funeral home, I was like damn. Theres a lot of bikes here. I believe last count I got was 85 before more showed up. Some from Pensacola, Melbourne and one from as far away as Wisconsin.

The burial site was a good ride away in Callaway and the police who escorted us could have taken us on a less congested route. But they didn't. Instead they took us straight down Harrison Ave. which is the main drag going through downtown Panama City.

All traffic stopped. Even those that did not have to. People got out of their vehicles and held their hands over their hearts. People lined every street we went down with American Flags, saluting and hands over their hearts. I saw many wiping tears from their eyes. And then, I won't lie, I had to wipe the tears from mine to witness such respect and honor of one who has fallen doing only what he was asked.

Upon arrival at the cemetery we all walked about a block from where we could park all the bikes. Some down the middle of the street with flags held high. We stood in honor and when the service was over quietly left.

Riding back on 22 through open country I thought about the honor and respect the capital city of Florida (Tallahassee), home of politicians who are part and parcel of the waging of war, pays to those who return home either in a box or scarred for life, and the tears came again.

Rest in peace Charles Jankowski, your war is over.Add to Technorati Favorites
