And the winner is..........................Shayla
Toy runs are toy runs. But when you add the annual lard wrestling contest with a $500.00 prize to the winner. Well then. You got an event.
Leavin the house in 30+ degree weather for the WFR Wakulla County Toy run may be easy for northern folk but for some of us southern boys that's cold. But thanks to the Wakulla County Sheriffs Deputies, who unlike Leon County/Tallahassee LEO, can always be counted on to help out the Bikers in the County, apparent desire to break some sort of Toy Run speed record there really wasn't much time to worry about the cold. I didn't see the checkered flag, but there must have been one at the beginning at the Walmart on Crawfordville Highway to the end at Savannah's Restaurant in Wakulla Station, where a pig was on the grill, the "Angry Bullet Band" was crankin up and those who chose cages over bikers where lining up the road.
Now normally toy runs are a biker gig. But three things make this one different, attracting Bikes, cages and I suspect a few who walked:
1. It's Wakulla County.
2. It's the Lard wrestling contest and BBQ
3. Wakulla County has some bad ass ladies.
#3 was evidenced by the one lady who had her shoulder dislocated in the lard pit, got out of the pit, had her mother put her shoulder back in place and then re-entered the pit to finish the match. Needless to say her courage was met with much applause and cheers.
However all the ladies who participated showed grit. The day didn't warm up all that much. But that didn't stop them. And these ladies didn't play. Though all the matches were good and all the ladies deserve kudo's for their efforts, it was the last match that had the crowd going. These two ladies took it a full 3 rounds and earned the respect of everybody I'm sure. Hell people were talkin about how much better the match was than anything on TV. Gladiators all and all winners for doing their part in making the Toy run a success.
A lot of thanks go out to Savannah's Restaurant in Wakulla Station, the Wakulla Freedom Riders, Angry Bullet band, Wakulla Sheriffs Dept and all those that just showed up to make this a successful event and a good time.
A prediction: This event ain't gonna do nothing but grow.
