Marianna-PGR sends off 144th and we say bullshit to Capital of Florida and it's Lt. Governor, what wasn't reported

Yesterday morning at 5:45 am riders from Tallahassee and Georgia area met at the Flying J Truck stop in Tallahassee. There we met up with riders from Georgia and other areas and proceeded to the National Guard Armory to meet the 166th Transportation Unit of the National Guard as they began the first leg of their journey to Iraq.

The Armory parking lot was full of family and tears as they wished their loved ones goodbye and a safe return and their journey began.

Rolling out of the Armory were 25 motorcycles, two bus loads of soldiers, a PGR chase vehicle and family in cars.

It was an awesome sight seeing this procession led by a Jackson County Sheriff deputy through the towns main drag to get to the interstate. There was a shorter less congested route to interstate 10. No matter, we went straight through town on Hwy 90, with an officer standing at attention at every lighted intersection in Marianna. Cars and trucks that didn't have to, going in the opposite direction, showed their respect for those going into a war zone by pulling over and stopping. It is a beautiful sight to see. One we only get to see here when the Governor needs a photo opp.

But this little trip had an even more interesting twist. We hit the Interstate with the officer still in front
with families at some of the overpasses waving. My thinking was once we reached the county line the officer would would kill his lights and head back. But NO! He kept his lights going as he led us through Gadsen County, not his jurisdiction.

Apparently Gadsen County did not mind. Just as apparently Tallahassee does not mind when Alabama State Troopers escorts their football team through the city with lights running.

Then we hit the LEON County line, home of Florida's Capital, and the Jackson County Officer kills his lights. I figure o.k. that's it he is going back now. But NO again??? He keeps leading, but since he isn't running lights it still means some PGR members have to block traffic. However it makes it easier with just the sight of his car, because Tallahassee citizens are less likely to run over a cop than they are people who are trying to demonstrate respect for soldiers we are sending to a place where they will get little. Hell in Tallahassee they try to run over you for doing that!

He leads us right onto the landing strip where the police folk don't want us to go but the airport folk always let us go because they, like the Jackson County Police, understand. It's there that it was reported that he was told he could not run his lights in Leon County? Obviously Jackson County cops escorting soldiers don't rate as high as Alabama Troopers escorting football players or Leon County sheriffs escorting horses.

From there the soldiers disembarked and gathered in a hanger where they got to hear a rousing speech from the Lt. Governor of Florida and we quote:

"We want these brave, young men and women to know how important they are to us," said Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, who came to shake hands with the soldiers and bid them farewell. From the Tallahassee Democrat

Well to Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp we say, "Bullshit"and "lies". We know this because as the "little," I mean Lt. Governor, was surrounded by reporters with microphones and camera's we asked him
if he knew why Jackson County could block every intersection to show support for our troops yet the the Capitals own police could not?

His response with a blank stare:

I don't know

I had an irresistible desire to add a "duh" in there. But he didn't actually say Duh, he just kind of looked it.

We then asked him if he would look into it for us, I mean like after all the 779th got a Tallahassee Police Department Escort after Governor Charlie Christ, you know the one running for the senate, made them stand in the hot sun so he could get his photo opp. What was the difference we might wonder?

He replied that he would, it's on tape somewhere but you all didn't see that little exchange on the local media did you? Which is like really surprising when you consider the hard hitting, controversial, investigative, non-partisan journalism our local media engages in.

We are surprised at the Tallahassee Democrat, they have demonstrated with their admirable Rachel Hoffman reporting that they have the ability. So maybe we just have to conclude that they do not have the "will" to find out the why? Or maybe they are o.k. with the fact that the Sheriff and the TPD Chief lied to them.

After all did they not report that both TPD Chief Dennis Jones and Sheriff Campbell said they will escort soldiers?

Maybe it should have read, The Tallahassee Police and the Leon County Sheriff's department and by extension the citizens of Tallahassee and Leon County will show respect for soldiers, following the orders of their country, being sent into harms way, coming home from harms way and/or being killed or injured as a result of following orders WHEN GOVERNOR CHRIST TELLS THEM TO!!!!!

IF Chief Jones has an e-mail address we can not find it. It would appear his do boys take care of business for him. We are not surprised. His detachment from the rest of his department is one of the reasons Rachel Hoffman died.
