Firefighter Captain Richard Rhea is honored in Crawfordville, fl. Rest in Peace

Firefighter Capt. Richard Rhea was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, January 24,
When he fell on a downed live wire.

Local PGR were asked to stand in his honor. Although some may feel a mission such as this is outside the purview of of the Patriot Guard Riders. Area Riders felt in this case it was more than appropriate. Wakulla County has been an ardent supporter of the PGR and has turned out and filled our every need when conducting a mission in the county. It is only right that we in turn offer honor and respect to those who give their lives for a community that offers honor and respect for those who give their lives for our freedom. It is what makes this country strong. Supporting our neighbors in their time of need.

On January 26 and 27 PGR members stood vigil outside of the funeral home as friends, family and members of the community came to pay their respects.

Today Riders rode through rain from Panama City/Panama City Beach, Quincy, Thomasville, Ga., Valdosta, Ga and some from Tallahassee.

The riders staged at the funeral home to engage in the honor of helping to escort Captain Rhea' and family through this small town many of whose residents lined the roads in the rain to pay their respects.
Having never participated in a firefighters funeral before I can not describe the awe I felt at the brotherhood and camaraderie exhibited by first responders of all Types.

This included fire trucks from around the state, EMT's, Red Cross and Law Enforcement. The escort included marching bagpipers and a flyover by an emergency services helicopter.

As many times as we have thanked the county for their services in honoring a returning veteran, it is now time to thank them for allowing us to participate in honoring one of their own.

Rest in Peace Captain Richard Rhea and know that you were loved.

Our prayers will be with your family. Be comforted in knowing they are in good hands.Add to Technorati Favorites

(See our updated post on this subject here)

I'm guessing Florida has determined the value of a life-$1000 dollars for the life of a loved one. Bullshit!
