Riding in the mountains, the Dragon, Richard Russell Scenic Hwy and Cherahola skyway

If you haven't seen a post on this site in awhile it is because we done got burnt. We are trying to get unburnt. One of the best ways to do that is to buy another bike and head for the Ga.,N.C. and Tennessee Mountains with a couple of friends (TZ and Z) and blow the cob webs out of your head.

We left here on Fri prior to labor day. Made Robbinsville NC by dark. Which made for interesting riding right off the bat as the rental Z had arranged had it's own little dragon, part of which is on a dirt road, then a gravel road and ends going over a gravel hill and braking in mud.

Negotiating the turns in dark and wet provided there own thrill.

The next day we headed up the dragon (Deals Gap). The traffic on the gap nowdays pretty much takes the thrill out of it. Pretty yes! But about the time you get enough speed to get a lean you run into backed up traffic.

One Store keep told us they were losing one biker a month up there. Thats what we were told. We have made no effort to verify it. Though the ambulances we saw tend to make it believable. Many, many untrained riders (so we are told and witnessed).

The Cherahola Skyway, Richard Russell Scenic highway (in Ga.) and a lot of upper 129 in the Ga. Mountains continue to make for most excellent riding. Curves enough and sharp enough to satisfy any die hard as evidenced by the number of sport bikes on them. The three mile ascent to Brasstown Bald can work ya. On the way down no throttle needed. Brakes and clutch? Yepper.

Monday we headed back arriving home around midnight. Four days of non stop riding, good friends and unpredictable weather. Yeah thats what I'm talking about.

A side note: A thumbs up to Z for taking the majority of the pics and the video. My lady is a little dicey in the curves so holding a camera was out of the question. However Z taught her to stare at the back of my helmet and repeat over and over again, "helmet, helmet, helmet............". Last night as I'm trying to doze I found myself going helmet helmet helmet..........

Go here to see the pics Z took that I didn't steal
