Also from the Dragon, this tribute to Naval fighter pilot Scott Speicher returned home after being shot down over Iraq.

9/11 first hand accounts from bikers that were there
Can be found here and here on the Horse Back Street Choppers site. They are excellent pieces of writing that convey the incidents of 9/11 in an almost surreal way.
In the same thread is a piece by the Dragon (here) who sent us the above links and has sent us many others. A reminder that often times tragedies of the moment are accompanied and/or endured by ongoing tragedies of other natures.
I have met people who have overcome things no human being should ever have had to face. I have met others whose souls are irretrievably broken yet do the best they can in spite of it.
A fellowship that helped to save my own ass taught that we all become stronger by sharing our experience strengths and hopes and I would add, our fears.
Such could never be more applicable than in these troubled times. I highly recommend you read the links above.Add to Technorati Favorites

Fire and Iron 9/11 memorial run 09
I believe this years turn out for the annual Fire and Iron 9/11 memorial run was the largest yet. At least from the perspective of those that gathered to ride. Observation would lead one to wonder how many of the people that rode actually attended the ceremony.
The actual number of people on the Capital square seemed quite small when one considers what this date is all about. I guess that saying that time heals all wounds is apropos.
For me anyway the most important part of the ceremony is the ringing of the bell, and taps. This year however there was a pleasant twist. A member of the Tallahassee Fire Department sang an acappella
duet of the National anthem. Thumbs up on an outstanding job.
We must never forget that day. Nor should we forget how our government has used that day as an excuse to limit the freedom of the American citizen.
