Bring a soldier home for Christmas Update

We are reposting our post of 10-8-09 Along with an update. Don't you wish we could bring all our soldiers home?  We can't, "YET".  However we can, as a community, show that we care by at least bringing a few home to spend the holidays with there families:

Original POST:
TALLAHASSEE (and anybody else from anywhere else that would like to see this happen)!

The Vietnam/Legacy Vets MC  M Chapter and the  Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #96  are spearheading an effort to bring at least 6 (more if the community will support it) soldiers home for the holidays.

Their are currently six soldiers identified who based in Germany are currently deployed in Iraq. They have been in Iraq since thanksgiving day, 2008. Some are on their second, third and fourth tours of duty.

The military will fly them back to their stations "IF" they are able to get home.  The "IF" is based on their ability to get a ticket home. Tickets home are going for $1200 to $1600 per soldier (and going higher as the holidays get closer) means that if the 6 are to come home they will need YOUR help and like NOW!

It does not matter about how you feel about the war. It is not about the war. It is about standing for those who stand FOR YOU.  Yes the economy sucks but THIS IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

CAN YOU THINK OF A BETTER CHRISTMAS PRESENT TO GIVE TO YOURSELF THAN TO GIVE BACK TO THOSE WHO GIVE TO YOU??????

So even if you don't live in the Tallahassee area. If you live anywhere and just want to do a good thing send your Tax Deductible checks or money orders to:

Viet Nam Veterans of America Big Bend Chapter 96, 241 Lake Ella Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32303-5572 VVA 96

Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.

UPDATE:

The following are some communications I (Mrs. Ridley) have received from a few of the soldiers currently deployed in Iraq that we are trying to get home for the holidays. Joe West with the Vietnam Veterans of America has raised over $2,000 so far. He's busting his butt to help make this happen for our soldiers. So far, Joe has received $1,000 from the Vietnam Veterans of America, #96 and $1,000 from the American Legion in Tallahassee. College students from Florida State University are trying their hardest to raise money for this cause and have raised $100.00 so far this week. As far as I know, we've had one private donation from a gentleman and his wife in Carrabelle. The only thing that I can think to say is THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who is supporting this effort! We've got a long way to go and just a short time to get there, but together, we can bring them home for the holidays. We are planning on purchasing the tickets 30 days before their leave dates which will be some time at the end of the month (October 2009). Your continued support for these soldiers is absolutely priceless and very much appreciated by them all.

ABATE of Florida, what the hell.........what we have been telling you is what

Awhile back we posted that the President/lobbyist of ABATE of Florida had resigned.

Link posted

6/14/09 ABATE OF FLORIDA PRESIDENT/LOBBYIST RESIGNS

But then all of a sudden it was business as usual with James D. Reichenbach (aka Doc) continuing to muck up things as usual and we wondered what the hell is going on:

Well thanks to Mike "Radar" Price, former legislative director of ABATE  of Florida we seem to be getting a partial glimpse as to what has been going on, Following are some excerpts and the links to where they are posted:

First up, Why did Mike "Radar" Price resign:

Email to the Board - 10/25/2008 6:35pm
"At the September board meeting I resigned as state president but after talking to Danny I agreed to stay until 1 Jan 2009 and I intend to honor this agreement.  That being the case I here by request that the Abate of Florida, Inc. board of directors terminate my contract as lobbyist at the same time.  I have found you a new lobbyist for this session and you can make a deal with him.... "

It continues with personal reasons for his resigning that is of no concern to ABATE and or it's members... His resigning was not the issue, how he handled it was another. It involved Frenchi and Lana and a "personal" conflict that was by far - unprofessional and childish. It ultimately resulted in Frenchi and Lana leaving ABATE.

and

On April 1st, 8:15 am, I submitted my "Intent to resign" to the Vice-President with a brief explanation. At 9:25 am, the Vice-President resigned. At 10:00 am, the President resigned. Kind of makes you wonder what was so bad to cause a domino effect.

Next up You can read the Vice Presidents resignation here

Following is the resignation letter of James D. Reichenbach the president/lobbyist"

Subject: resignation
At 10:00 am this morning I have resigned my position as President of Abate of Florida, Inc. and as lobbyist, I also want my name stricken from the rolls of Abate of Florida, Inc. I will send my life membership card back immediately upon arriving home. I will get all of Abate's things together and they will be delivered as soon as possible. Danny Fish has also resigned so Bob Alexander is now the State President and will I'm sure do a good job. For those of you that wonder why, I am tired of the games being played on me by board memebers and people doing it for themsvelves instead of the cause. I thought we were over this but all it took was for me to take care of my dying mother and the
games started again.
James D. "Doc" Reichenbach II

Now as those who have either been reading our posts or following the garbage put out by the President of ABATE of Florida you know that much of the blame for legislative failures last year  were placed on some Tallahassee Bikers that decided to have their own voice as evidenced here:

President of ABATE of Florida again attacking everybody that does not bow to his highness

http://www.bigbendbikersforfreedom.com/2009/06/president-of-abate-of-florida-again.html

When the truth is, that while blaming us he was also blaming and chastising his own board as can be seen here:  http://www.floridabiker.com/resigninfo/report.html while at the same time deluding ABATE's membership.

Excerpt:

Sunday, March 29th - 9:45 pm - email from the President to the entire State Board
"I am home right now but will be leaving tuesday morning back to Ohio. Call Danny Fish for anything abate and call Mike Price and (other person) if it has to do with lobbying as they are now the lobbyist. Also.... (he continued into personal attacks on ABATE members).

Now we have a problem... I tried to call the lobbyist but only got voicemail and was getting no return calls. I contacted the Vice President who informed me that he was also leaving messages with no response. We discussed the content of the email message and discussed the situation with the upcoming Senate Committee hearing on Wednesday, April 1st. The decision was made for me to attend the committee hearing and plan for things to be resolved soon. All I needed to do was the same as the House hearing... support the bill, get a match, get a vote, then target the next committee for needed changes.

Tuesday, March 31st - 1:15 pm
I arrived in Senator Garcia's office to discuss the next day's agenda and introduction of the amendment. As I arrived, the lobbyist was sitting in the office foyer area talking on his phone. Upon completing his conversation, he abruptly got up and started to leave the room with no acknowledgement. I spoke out, "Hi Doc, how are you doing?". His reply was crude and rude to say the very least as he walked down the hall without ever turning around...

From me to the lobbyist - 1:22 pm, text message
"I understood you were headed to Ohio, what am I supposed to do please"
Reply from the lobbyist
".... I am representing myself you two are abate's lobbyist that's what you and the (expletive) wanted"
Reply back from me
"Sorry, but I have no clue what .....(personal reference) has to do with any of this, if you are doing ABATE business, I need to leave. I am not the lobbyist."
Additional reply from me to the lobbyist
"Since you are here, I will head back home"

Which means that much of the information being put out to the public and for that matter ABATE's general membership and we must assume the legislators involved was not necessarily correct.
And we are being very kind when we say "Not necessarily correct," because we would prefer the word, lies.

Was there an "Official" Emergency Meeting on April 1st, 2009? This we will print in it's entirety as it is printed here:

Yes... at least as far as we knew at the time.

Because the Vice President and President both resigned that morning, I sent a copy of my "Intent to Resign" to Bob Alexander the acting President so that he would have an understanding of the actions prompting the resignations. I beleive he discussed this letter with the other executive board member and a decision was made to call an emerency meeting that evening.

There were two meetings actually, one April 1st and the second on April 3rd.
The meetings was recorded, brought to order, role called with everyone in attendence except the President, Vice President, and one exception in the second meeting.

Much was discussed concerning the past and present actions of the President. A motion (after several changes) was made to offer the President a "delayed" acceptance of his resignation so that he could finish the legislative session. A vote was taken and passed with the idea that the legislative session would be covered and further changes could be made at that time. Looking back, it was unfortunate that little or possibly no discussion about the Vice President came into play, it focused heavily on the President and Lobbyist positions.

No one realized that these meetings were not following the proper protocol and could therefore become null and void. And I beleive that to also be true of the President as evidenced by an email he sent referencing the deal offered by the Board. However, the information in the meeting was damaging, so I'm sure that some quick research was done to discover a way out of releasing any recordings or minutes.

However, the fact that this meeting could never be construed as official as held at that time, it could have easily been held again for the purpose of making it official. If the President was really sincere about his resignation, a procedural change could have been made, and a proper meeting could have been called. This has been verified by a couple of corporate lawyers.

Think about it... if two executive Board members die in an airplane crash, does the corporation just die with them? Of course not. There are equally avenues to take care of resignations as well.
So why did this procedural change not take place? Probably because it was determined that the remaining board did not have the authority to accept or deny the resignations as well. After all... how many times has the President resigned over the years...? with no acceptance...? Do you really think he expected this one to stick?

As discribed to me by a board member a few days later... a decision was made (by whom I have no knowledge) to allow the President to remain in position until the end of his term - June 30th, 2010.
Since I was never called for any further board meetings, I have no idea who made this decision.
Due to space we have not printed everything as it can be found here
http://www.floridabiker.com/resignation.html  in it's entirety including the following:

While there is "supposed" to be significant change in leadership on July 1st, 2010 - this will not happen unless the membership makes the choice to press this change. Over the next few months, decisions will have to be made about the future direction of the organization.

Much information has been suppressed over the past year, and I've discovered that this is, and has been, the "norm" for the corporation for some time. Ever wonder why people disappear and never heard from again...? Everyone wonders, but the questions are not asked, the answers are not given, and threats are made to suppress.
Now recently we heard from a local chapter member that the local Chapter was going to raise the issue of having "Doc" removed from office at the next state meeting. We will wait to see if that occurs. It is hard to know what the local chapter is up to since they no longer put out a newsletter as per the by-laws (last I read them), despite the fact they sold ads and collected money for such a newsletter (this information we got from one of our own advertisers and have made no attempt to validate it).

Reading the site it would appear that more is yet to come. Regardless Those who have followed this site and Bruce and rc's Biker Forum would know that ABATE of Floridas President/lobbyist appears to have been milking ABATE of Florida to his own benefit for years.  We have caught much flack from others for our postings. Threats have even been tossed around.

What is amazing is how many members have been aware of the information we have printed yet sat idly by allowing it to happen?  Violations of by-laws, denial of members rights, attempted suppression of individual rights, lies, lack of reporting to the state, questions regarding where the money goes
and on and on and...............

Mike "Radar Price" writes:
ABATE has a lot to offer to the motorcycling community with the right attitude in place. I sincerely hope that ABATE will survive the needed changes and that significant growth will occur. At this time, there is a great divide developing among motorcyclist, and I believe that the failure of ABATE to reorganize will effect its future.
It would appear the last couple of years motorcyclist have been a favorite target of legislators and 'Other Vehicle Operators" alike. It has also become OBVIOUS that the organization formed to protect the rights of Bikers has become corrupt to the point of impotence. Can ABATE of Florida rise like a phoenix from the ashes and tight itself?  Not until they learn to learn, open their ears and rediscover respect!

Will Florida insurance companies win again at your expense

I have to wonder if there any other state legislatures as controller by the insurance and telecommunications industry as Florida. THe n ewest legislation to divorce you from your money and  possibly your drivers license.

Florida May Put Loud Stereo Tickets on Driving Record

Florida May Put Loud Stereo Tickets on Driving Record

A member of the Florida House of Representatives wants to make driving with a loud stereo a crime on the same level as driving with an open container of alcohol. State Representative D. Alan Hays (R-Umatilla) last month introduced House Bill 137 which modifies an existing loud stereo statute to double the cost of fines and make the offense a moving violation. Current Florida law makes it unlawful to drive with a stereo “plainly audible” from twenty-five feet away or that is “louder than necessary for the convenient hearing by persons inside the vehicle” when driving past a church, school or hospital. Law enforcement officers are exempt as are politicians who use loud soundmaking devices for “political purposes.” The typical fine is $78 with no points.

HB 137 would impose three license points and boost the fine to $180 for a third offense. The addition of points will serve as a boon to insurance companies which will collect significantly higher premiums from ticket recipients. The industry has already rewarded Hays $16,650 in political contributions since his election in 2004, including support for his run for the state Senate in 2010.

Although state law already imposes a specific fine for loud stereos, several municipalities have written their own civil ordinances in order to impose harsher punishments including sixty days in jail, a $500 fine and the potential for thousands in impound fees. Passage of the Hays bill would allow these cities to add license points to the list.

Keep in mind now that it is already against the law and one would suspect that with sufficient enforcement the current law would be adequate. But oh no, not in Florida, the land of illegal red light cameras and seizure of personal property for traffic violations.

We once posted the question would Florida become the first "Police State" in the nation?  Unless somebody can provide us with a better contender then will postulate that it already has.Add to Technorati Favorites

Greg Zaffkes reaction to his mothers killer still be allowd to drive

Lora Hunt, the lady who was painting her fingernails while driving when she ran into and killed motorcyclist Anita Zaffke has plead not guilty to six counts of reckless homicide.

In her sons, Greg words (Greg runs the site Black Nail Brigade ) words:

It's funny, the words that defendant's attorney's chose to try and turn the tide of public opinion. It will be interesting to say the least to see their defense in court. Although they are banking on sympathy of the court, there is still the possibility that she changes her plea now that "discovery" has been made and they can view the evidence.

We are not looking for the "evil" person here. We are demanding an appropriate consequence & punishment for Lora Hunt's INTENTIONALLY RECKLESS actions while driving that took my mom's life.Add to Technorati Favorites

The State's Attorney asked that Lora Hunt's driver's license be suspended. The fact that she had no priors and was a Nurse was brought up. So the judge denied the request and Lora Hunt can drive wherever she wants right now. Up to Wisconsin to see her daughter (because apparently her daughter can't drive to visit her?), and on a vacation to Missouri next month. This is absolutely ridiculous!

My mother will not see me get married. She will not get to visit her grandchildren let alone see them ever. The list of things I will never have my mother be a part of is endless. Why should her killer be allowed to drive and get on with her life? She should have to think about what she has done every time she has to take the bus, call a cab, or ask for a ride.

Life taking should be life changing!
GZ

Remember now this is the case whereby Laura Hunt was originally charged with, " with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident" and it was only through public outcry that the charges were changed.

When a person is arrested for DUI (in the state of Florida) their drivers license is immediately suspended.  Is painting ones fingernails while driving any less of a crime? Yet this individual who without alcohol or drugs in their system exhibiting such poor judgment is still allowed to drive?

Who will she kill next?

At the very least before being allowed back on the road she should have been evaluated as to the competency to posses and/or own a deadly weapon. Consider the comments made by Assistant State's Attorney Michael Mermel:

the charges were appropriate because Hunt's decision to paint her nails while driving went beyond a temporary distraction into conscious recklessness.
It is apparent that the Judge in this case, Circuit Judge Fred Foreman's, has shown recklessness in his decision and should recuse himself from this case. You can write the court here:

Patriot Act being tweaked, very badly for us!

Bush, Obama, whats the freaking difference? From the Jurist:

Senate committee approves reauthorization of expiring Patriot Act provisions
Jaclyn Belczyk at 4:22 PM ET

[JURIST] The US Senate Judiciary Committee [official website] voted 11-8 Thursday to approve [press release] legislation [S 1692 materials] reauthorizing three provisions of the USA Patriot Act [JURIST news archive] set to expire at the end of the year. The portions of the act to be renewed allow federal authorities to conduct "roving" wiretaps, compel the production of business, medical and library records, and designate suspects as "lone wolf" agents of a foreign power. The bill would also impose greater oversight on the FBI's use of its surveillance powers and would cause several provisions of the act to expire after another four years. At the opening of Thursday's executive business meeting [materials], bill sponsor and committee chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) [official website] said:

I remain mindful of our responsibility to ensure both security and liberty as we proceed. All of us know that the threats to Americans' safety are real and continuing. Our bill will provide the tools that are being used to protect us, while increasing the protections of our vital constitutional rights, as well. The bill we consider today will serve to extend the authorization of the three expiring Patriot Act provisions requested by the administration. We also provide for increased Government accountability requiring audits and reviews of how these vast authorities are being used.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) [advocacy website] criticized the bill [press release], saying it does not go far enough to protect civil liberties. The bill will now go before the full Senate.

Last week, a US Department of Justice (DOJ) official told the committee that the Obama administration supports the reauthorization [JURIST report] of the expiring provisions. The 2009 expiration date on Section 215, the "business records" provision, and Section 206, the "roving wiretap" provision, were set in March 2006 when the 16 key provisions [DOJ report] of the Patriot Act were renewed and 14 made permanent [JURIST report]. Additional civil liberties safeguards built into the renewal included allowing recipients of Section 215 subpoenas to challenge the accompanying gag order. In the wake of these amendments, the ACLU withdrew a lawsuit challenging Section 215 [JURIST report]. Despite the amendments, a federal judge ruled last year that imposing gag orders on recipients of NSLs is unconstitutional without judicial review [JURIST report]Add to Technorati Favorites
