US Navy Chief Petty Officer Johnny Golden welcome home

Riders gathered at the intersection of I-10 and Hwy 59 yesterday to welcome Iraqi  veteran US Navy Chief Petty Officer Johnny Golden home after a tour of duty in Iraq.

PGR welcome home missions are the best kind. But this one was especially unique.

Petty Officer Goldens family transported his motorcycle to the staging area so he could ride in his own honor
ride.  About halfway through the ride the ride captain had to pull out with a bad tire  leaving Petty Officer Golden as lead rider in his honor ride.

When we stopped at the Wakulla County Court house where people were gathered to welcome Mr. Golden home, they were like "wheres Johnny"?  Um, he's on the lead motorcycle in leathers and fatigues.

From the court house he's was accompanied to his home in Panacea.

We want to thank the Jefferson County and Wakulla County Sherrifs Departments for, unlike Tallahassee and Leon County, providing Officers to lead the escort.  This was a long ride and Jefferson and Wakulla Counties are rural in nature with few resources. Especially when compared to Tallahassee/Leon County with Two Major colleges, numerous buildings full of state workers and the capital.

Providing escorts for rides I'm sure is harder for them to manage. Yet they do. So again thanks to both departments.

See here for pics of the mission.  More to come.

Note also the number of cars pulled off the side of the road out of respect.  Another thing we do not see in Leon County/Tallahassee area.

Thanks to "z" for taking the pics.Add to Technorati Favorites
