BIG BEND BIKERS FOR FREEDOM We make no attempt to be "politically correct". Left, Right, or Center. "Argue for your limitations and they are yours" Bach
History repeats itself and the Junkie Code-The convoluted logic of ABATE of FLorida
As a result of past life experiences I understand and to this day respect the Inmate/Junkie code as it relates to certain lifestyles. For instance if you are a drug dealer and get busted it's probably not a good idea to "rat" out "other" drug dealers. In fact, it is down right dangerous.
In prison, your enemies are legion but the number one enemy is "the man". So you do not align yourself with your number one enemy. Would You?
It is interesting how that code transfers to the "Legal" society.
For instance:
Doctors do not rat out other Doctors for fear they themselves might be next.
Attorneys do not rat out other attorneys for fear they themselves might be next.
Cops do not rat out other cops even if for fear of cop retaliation if they do.
IRS violators do not rat out IRS violators for fear they themselves maybe exposed
We could go on and on but I think it can be substantiated that the inmate/junkie code has thoroughly weaved itself into the fabric of mainstream society. In fact we are indoctrinated from a young age that it is not good to be a "tattle tale".
So though we refer to ourselves of a "nation of laws",
Discounting totally violations of "political correctness" which is an "oxymoron".

In the previous post the President outlines how the "alleged" assault of one of their members by the state President is being handled. The group is being given priority over the "rights of the Individual"
This is eerily reminiscent of past handling of events that led to the Presidents of three chapters, Big Bend, Whitesands, and Panhandle, being shut down in one state meeting in violation of by-laws and Roberts Rules of Order. Two of those chapters are no longer in existence and as per their last newsletter the third had only eight members show (out of a 100+/-) only two of which were officers.
It maybe that since Gulf Coast Chapter of ABATE of Florida is the home of the current State Vice President that the incident may be handled differently. Even though it is the same individual Big Bend
Chapter filed their initial complaint with that never saw the light of day.
Then again, the current state vice president position is contested while, as of this writing, the Presidents is not?
We commend the Gulf Coast Chapter of ABATE Presidents statement in the previous post:
In this case the "rights" of the victim could have been protected had the "law" been involved. The "law" is not obligated to "take sides". But that would have been a violation of the "Junkie/inmate"
code correct.
Which is way funny when you consider that ABATE of Florida pays someone to "make law" and that someone happens to be the alleged "victimizer!"
Based on the the Gulf Coast chapter presidents words, It would appear ABATE of Florida is spending more time trying to avoid justice than seek it. Obviously they have not yet learned that,

So though we refer to ourselves of a "nation of laws",
In 1776, the notion that no one is above the law was popular during the founding of the United States, for example Thomas Paine wrote in his pamphlet Common Sense "that in America, the law is king. For as in absolute governments the King is law, so in free countries the law ought to be king; and there ought to be no other."[13] In 1780, John Adams enshrined this principle in the Massachusetts Constitution by seeking to establish "a government of laws and not of men."[14]We might be more accurate to refer to ourselves as a nation of "law breakers." After all, we have become a nation of so many damn laws under so many damn jurisdictions I suspect it might be damn near impossible to function on a daily basis with out breaking a few.
Discounting totally violations of "political correctness" which is an "oxymoron".
Plato wrote:
Where the law is subject to some other authority and has none of its own, the collapse of the state, in my view, is not far off; but if law is the master of the government and the government is its slave, then the situation is full of promise and men enjoy all the blessings that the gods shower on a state.[7]Individual rights as defined by law are all over the map. In fact most right wing conservatives might be surprised to learn that in a sense they are very "liberal".
In the minarchist political views of libertarians and classical liberals, the role of the government is solely to identify, protect, and enforce the natural rights of the individual while attempting to assure just remedies for transgressions. Liberal governments that respect individual rights often provide for systemic controls that protect individual rights such as a system of due process in criminal justice. Collectivist states are generally considered to be oppressive by such classical liberals and libertarians precisely because they do not respect individual rights.
Ayn Rand submits that:
That being said, it would seem that groups that lobby legislatures stating they are advocates of individual rights such as ABATE of Florida might wish to review how it is they treat the "individual rights" of their own members.Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual).[2]

However, it is my contention that no one man stands above the Corporation or our CAUSE. As President of the Gulf Coast Chapter I will always stand for the protection of any of my members or members of the corporation against any injustice. We also find it somewhat oxymoronic. The "rights of the individual" supersede the rights of any "corporation" or "cause" as "individual rights" are the "cause." The most important "individual" in this case is the "victim".
In this case the "rights" of the victim could have been protected had the "law" been involved. The "law" is not obligated to "take sides". But that would have been a violation of the "Junkie/inmate"

| Incident Report and Request for President to Resign filed by Gulf Coast Chapter March 9th, 2010 | FILE |
Comments from Satch Gulf Coast President. While there was an incident and some of what is written in your post is true, your summation is inaccurate. To fully understand the events of the incident you must read the entire complaint. Since the filing of our complaint the State Board conducted an investigation and declined our request and responded unanimously in support of Doc. At our monthly membership meeting it was presented to our membership that the Chapter Board had filed an incident report and voted unanimously to send it to the State Board. Our Chapter By LAws allow this. There was no dissent on this issue from the Chapter members present. We then asked for a motion to proceed with our request to address the delegation in April at the State meeting to request the resignation. After much passionate discussion and the disclosure of all facts known to our Chapter investigation and testimony from the members knowledgeable or involved in the incident, the State Vice President was given the floor and reiterated that the State Board had denied our complaint and request. However, after more testimony and a lot of information given to him that he was not aware of, he asked for the ability to conduct a mediation panel and further investigation. A vote was called for on the motion to address the delegation and ask for the resignation of the State President. The vote was 42 in favor, 15 opposed and 2 abstained. There were 76 members present. 17 did not vote. Even though there was a clear 2/3 majority of those that voted required to pass the motion, our Chapter by laws require 2/3 majority of members present to pass a motion to remove an officer. The motion fell 2 votes short. Immediately a motion was made and seconded to form a mediation panel with the State Vice President to further investigate the incident and come up with a solution satisfactory to all. We have removed, in writing, the verbiage requesting the immediate resignation of the State President. However, our complaint remains intact minus that verbiage. The State Board's investigation that denied our request was incomplete and one sided. However, we have faith in the State Vice President to conduct a more thorough investigation and a two sided mediation panel.
ABATE of Florida, Inc is a great organization that has accomplished a lot over the years. However, it is my contention that no one man stands above the Corporation or our CAUSE. As President of the Gulf Coast Chapter I will always stand for the protection of any of my members or members of the corporation against any injustice. The Gulf Coast Chapter fully supports ABATE of Florida,Inc and the State Board as a whole.
