Please Rob me, a Public Service for Our Readers

We had a facebook page once. We got rid of it when we found out that the folk at Facebook were not much concerned with our privacy. Especially if a dollar or two may have been involved.  Of course now that it is to late we may get another one....BUT:

WARNING WILL ROBINSON WARNING

Because although the following accord via facebook it something to consider since we are all so wired and social now days.  Only wish I'd a thought of it before the crooks did.

Remember Please Rob Me, the site that tried to raise awareness about the dangers of broadcasting publicly on Foursquare and other geo services when you are not home? I don’t know that any burglaries ever actually occurred as a result of the information on the site, which in any case is not operational any more (it made its point).

But when you take the same idea of location broadcasting and put it on a service with more than 500 million users, it is no longer just academic. People’s houses will get robbed, at least in New Hampshire. A burglary ring in Nashua, New Hampshire targeted people who checked into places on Facebook, alerting them when they were not home. The police caught them after they broke into 50 homes and stole $100,000 worth of goods.
This seems like a good time to revisit Please Rob Me’s mission statement:
The danger is publicly telling people where you are. This is because it leaves one place you’re definitely not… home. So here we are; on one end we’re leaving lights on when we’re going on a holiday, and on the other we’re telling everybody on the internet we’re not home. It gets even worse if you have “friends” who want to colonize your house. That means they have to enter your address, to tell everyone where they are. Your address.. on the internet.. Now you know what to do when people reach for their phone as soon as they enter your home. That’s right, slap them across the face.
Please Rob Me, indeed.Add to Technorati Favorites

Islamaphobia, self rightousness, self hate and ramblings of a mad man

In seeking out a personal relationship with a higher power I have found myself at different times exploring  religion, mysticisms, psychology and various other ideologies.  My travels in this direction in no way qualify me as an expert on God by whatever name you choose.  Somebody once defined expert for me as being somebody who has nothing else to learn.  In matters of the soul, I am no expert.

In fact it has taken much searching to find, that what I was looking for had always been there, had I the courage to open my eyes.  I have had the privilege of meeting others on this journey from whom I could learn from and offer too.  A most difficult lesson learned is I can not stand on a street corner and shout to the world regarding spiritual matters, I have found the answer, listen to me, I know the way!

I can't do this for a number of reasons, including but not limited to:

I do not have all the answers. I have my answer, which may or may not work for another.  Even at that, I may learn that something I believe today is not true and must adjust my belief to account for truths not previously understood.  Some would call that hypocrisy while others might refer to it as learning.

Whatever I may believe I can not practice without the human failings that may brand me as a hypocrite.

9/11 Becomes a Circus, Palin, Beck, and Gingrich are the clown leaders!

On 9-11-2001 I happened to be watching CNN as the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon began.   I clearly remember coming to the conclusion before it became apparent, as probably many others did, that this was no accident. It was an attack. I have no problem admitting that tears came to my eyes as I felt physically ill knowing that our  lives had now changed forever.

We all watched as ordinary American men and woman became hero's as, giving little thought to their own safety, they risked their own lives to save the lives of others. I was so moved by the actions of the passengers on  United Airlines Flight 93that I had Todd Beamers famous last words, "lets Roll" tattooed on my back.

As horrific as that day was, it showed the true strength of character of everyday American men and women.

The problem that has become exceedingly clear since that day, is that we are not ruled by the strength and character of the "common" men and women who risked their lives that day.  Instead we are
ruled by "idiots".  Ruled by idiots sprinkled with a dash of wackos who would not only use that day as means to their own political ends, but profit from it as well.
