LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Admiral lauds community outpouring

THOMASVILLE — Please allow me to express my sincere thanks to the citizens of Thomasville and the surrounding towns for the astonishing tribute that you paid to my fellow Sailor and serviceman last Friday.  As a visitor to your town I will admit to being overwhelmed at the expression of reverence and respect for Senior Chief Blake McLendon.  Before I traveled to Thomasville I read that residents had been asked to fly American flags in honor of Senior Chief McLendon and his family.  Little did I understand that thousands would come, stand at attention and salute this hero as his funeral procession passed.

I regularly travel across our country and as often as possible do so in uniform.  When I do, it is not unusual for strangers to greet me and thank me for my service.  I tell the person that they are welcome and how lucky and honored that I am to be in the United States Navy.   I know that the citizens of the United States appreciate the effort and sacrifice of our volunteer force but no experience prepared me for the honors that were paid to Senior Chief McLendon.  I have never been prouder to be an American a nd I will not forget my visit to Thomasville.

Rear Admiral William Leigher
Deputy Commander, U.S. TENTH Fleet.

Stock Market breaks 11,000 today and are we ever so screwed!

With Gold going up and the stock market going up and bond paying off well hell everybody's getting rich right? But, but, but why then this mornings job report:

From CNBC: By nearly any measure, Friday's nonfarm employment report was a disappointment: Payrolls dropped 95,000, the so-called "real" unemployment rate jumped to 17.1 percent and one of the few growth areas came in restaurant and bar jobs.Yet there was Wall Street, sorting through the rough and finding diamonds in a private payroll increase and continued hopes that a second round of Fed money injections—commonly referred to as quantitative easing, or in this case QE2—would help right a listless ship
And there in lies a very, very bad omen.  Especially if you count the fact that mergers and acquisitions are on the rise which will also have a negative effect on jobs.

So why are all bets (and that is all that it is, gambling where the dealer always wins which we will prove at the end) rising?
