Since posting we have contacted one the committee members of www.veteventstally.orgto inquire as to progress since they sent out their appeal for help. Apparently the progress is not so good.
If you would please allow me to make the case as to why you "should" contribute to this cause, i.e. helping out the Tallahassee veterans. I think the case might be more clear if one would read the follwing posted on July 12, 2008, Tallahassee, Florida a State Capital where patriotism is dead.
This post leads to other posts relating what we came to call the battle of Tallahassee,Do Not QUIT now people, we are getting er done for our servicemen, no retreat, no compromise, no surrender
Obviously judging by the respect for veterans shown by Thomasville, Ga. and other communities, the "Capital City of Florida" has a long way to go.
Last years area Veterans Day parade was canceled due to the threat of rain. This angered and hurt many veterans and their supporters. Just as having the parade relegated to side streets while others go down main street has shown them further disrespect.
So the vets did what many advocate that we all should do. They went to the commission and had the parade and it's costs placed under their (Veterans) control. This is an act that many who advocate for "smaller" government should applaud. Theoretically we would think that many in the "conservative" city of Tallahassee would get behind and help support these actions. However you spent time reading any of the posts above, you can see that, that is not something veterans in the area can depend on.
As a supporter if the idea that government is over involved in our lives and a proponent of the idea the government itself disrespects veterans we would like to see the area succeed, not only in putting on a parade, but demonstrating that individuals can do it better. But then our hopes have been dashed before.
You see, THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT VETERANS, it is about what YOU and I proclaim to stand for!
Liberty, Freedom, smaller government, Individual rights leading to individual achievement and above all, A BROTHERHOOD devoted to doing the right thing by not only our VETS, but AMERICA.
They are only looking for $5,000.00. Yes we agree, a town the size of Tallahassee should have know problem coming up with that small amount. In fact we believe there should be at least one business or local "corporation" out there that could do so. However do date, that has not happened. We are left to rely on those who, "get it."
I believe that there are enough people out there. "get it" that were they to just throw in a dollar, or a 6-pack or pack of cigarettes it could be accomplished in a day.
We beg you veterans and non-veterans alike. Americans all to help these vets achieve the honor and respect they deserve. Below is the original letter sent out. PLEASE HELP!
From: Joe West
President Veteran Events in Tallahassee Inc.Good Morning,
As a lot of you already know plans for this years Veterans Day Parade have been proceeding at an incredibly fast pace, we have been blessed with cooperation from all facets of our community and because of that cooperation will have a parade that is much larger than previous years.
Unfortunately our fund-raising efforts have not gone as well as we had predicted, its a tough economy for sure and as much as I hate to do this I must ask all of you to please pass this request along to anyone you think may be able to help us.
We are still about $ 5,000.00 short of doing all the things we had planned, we need about 350 t shirts for our volunteers, approximately 30 two way radios for parade day communications, poster materials for parade day signage and banners, decor for our two floats and the list goes on.
We are realistic enough to know we won't get to do everything we want but its these final flourishes that will distinguish this years parade from those of years gone by.
Anyone can donate by going to our website (link) at www.veteventstally.org and either use a debit or credit card or checks can be made out and mailed to

If you are with the media any exposure you can give us will help and I am available to all of you to help with these efforts. as I asked before if anyone of you can pass this onto someone you think might want to donate please do so and help us complete this very wothwhile mission.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and again we are thankful for any help you can give us.
Respectfully Submitted
