Representative Democracy is DEAD! Into the wild

With the holidays and other "stuff" crimping our lives of late, this will be more thought exercise than post. By that we mean we will not be posting as many links as usual but will rely mostly on observations and extrapolations made from past posts. Call it a thought exercise if you will. Besides we have spent  a considerable amount of time in past posts linking certain truths. Keywords and search ideas can be found to the left by our search box.

The other day when consumer confidence was reported as being higher than significant periods in the past we were experiencing a bit of cognitive dissonance.  After all, at the same time Sears was announcing the closure of many stores, read that numerous lost jobs.  And as we search the web daily we have been particularly struck by recent layoff numbers. Most especially in the financial sector.  Our thoughts might be that financial layoffs do not show up as quickly in the economy, as many have the capability to withstand immediate consequences and it does not resonate as say a factory closing. The consequences of which are almost immediately felt in the community.

The other disconnect that we have discussed with others is that the majority of the U.S. population has little comprehension of what real money and power is.  There are individuals and Corporations, ex. Apple, Inc., that have enough wealth to be their own country.  Money creates money.  We all know that.  But somewhere along the line we allowed ourselves to become convinced that the created money "trickles" down to the general population.  Nothing can be further from the truth.  The goal of people with real wealth is to "preserve capital".  Although most of the people we know would lose money if they retired on a 3% return.  Economies  of scale dictate that enough money at 3 precent can be a comfortable income if that 3% is calculated on large enough stash of cash.

So again, Money creates money. And the evidence that the trickle down theory is a myth is the exponential gains in wealth of the rich and famous over the years and the decline in real wealth for the rest of us.  The thing that really hurts those of us in the 99% is that those with wealth do not see much of us.  They have no idea of how many of us must scrimp and save for a tank of gas to get back and forth to work and God help us should we get sick and lose a few days of work at jobs that pay no sick leave.

Now were just the wealthy in their own universe where they could not cause harm to others, then there would be no reason for this post.  The problem however is, the wealthy have taken over the mechanism by which the rest of us are governed.

In todays times most of us could not even consider running for a political office solely because of the cost of doing so.  Those who can afford it and do get elected are for the most part, wealthy enough to do so.  They do not live in our world and we do not live in theirs.  Both sides of the aisle, republican and democrat, are made up of people who do not represent us as they are really to far divorced from how many of us must live.  So to say this is a "representative democracy" is a total farce. And it just may be that the people "they" govern may be getting it, as congressional approval ratings reach all time lows.

However, to recognize one has an infection, yet not do anything to address it is not enough.  You can recognize that the government no longer represents the common man and woman, but failure to do anything about  it just means we will get sicker.  And the delusion that come the next election we will elect people who will "fix it" is just a symptom of the disease.

Many still cling to the "contact your legislator" axiom as if it were still true.  I challenge any reader to  provide us with an example of when and how after contacting their legislator the actions they took financially benefited the common people.  Unless you are a lobbyist with nothing of value other than a check book we suspect you will, more often than not, be talking to an aide.  And therein lies a fallacy that many of our generation do not seem to be able to get past.  Our representaties no longer represent us and in fact, over the years, have created a system that only benefits them and those who own them.  The Koch brothers and the like are not likely to donate millions of dollars to a candidate that will do nothing for them upon election to office. Yet we consistently get e-mails describing how one politician or another is screwing us over.  Our contention would be that "most" of them are screwing us over.

Unfortunately congress has lost their moral compass to avarice and greed.  However we have to ask about our, the American peoples, moral compass?

The United States is still referred to as a Christian nation.  Of course it is no longer true, but for the purpose of this post lets say it is.  We would be hard pressed to find passages in the new testament, especially the "red" words, those attributed to Jesus, that would support the hate and deprivation of rights that seem to out weigh the love thy neighbor and do unto the least of us teachings.  It is almost as though we have moved form Christian evangelism to Christian Fascism.  It is as if we have thrown the moral compass away.  We condemn others for that we ourselves do.  The question for us is, how many persons have been attracted to faith compared to how many have been driven away!

Could that be the reason we do not hold our leaders accountable?  Is it that we know within that to hold them accountable we must also hold ourselves accountable?  We can see a time coming where many will be where we have been.  Our propensity to condemn those less privileged than ourselves will only allow the most corruptible to become more corrupt.  We have intentionally made ourselves blind, for to see would mean it would be unconscionable not to take actions we would rather not take, i.e. the total dismantling and rebuilding our current government.  When an apple becomes rotten to the core you don't save it to eat on a rainy day.  You throw it away before it rots everything it touches.

Those that have read this far we feel have an obligation.  That is to reach those who have not. Because we have to wonder why American taxpayers are allowing us to bail out Europe.  Though we have posted the proof before, we offer m ore proof via this link,   A Thinly Veiled Bail.  It is one of the more direct posts on this subject we have found.  In the past we have referenced how this is occurring through the back door.  It is now out in the open. And it is also an indication of things to come as the 99% once again allows itself to bail the 1% out from doing what they have always done forcing us to pay the consequences.

We know it is trying times and it all many can do to keep their head above water while caught in a rip tide and the shore keeps getting further away.  What amazes us the most is, when you consider how fiercely a mother will fight for her child, how willing todays parents are willing to do nothing to insure our failures are not paid for by our children.

As a closing thought we were amazed at the number of hits our post on L.P. s citi bank song, "into the wild" has received.  To those we would ask, "are you ready to swing the gate wide open?"  Are you ready to go "Into the wild"?  Could you engage in the same passion to rescue the country for your children you would exhibit to find a songAdd to Technorati Favorites

  1. In your paragraph starting with "The United States is still referred to as a Christian nation." You stated that we Christians are embracing hate and deprivation of rights. Please explain what you mean.

    Thanks

  2. My belief is that a large number of people who profess to be Christians have engaged in uncharitable acts when it come to persons of different races, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, or different religious beliefs. Many would support a political platform that would limit the rights of such individuals.

Remember there was no Bible in the time of Jesus (new testament). Jesus taught a way to follow, not forced thorough legislation biblical rules. His messages was forgiveness for those who fell and for those able to share with the downtrodden.

He sent his disciples out to teach, not to force. A loving God had no need to force his/her will for God knows that love can not be dictated, forced or legislated. It must be practiced. Condemnation is not love.
