Now we understand that people do not like big government. People do not like being told what to do. People believe that can drive just fine while using a cell phone, DESPITE THE EVIDENCE! But then as we posted here, Number one reason the U.S. is failing-"Stupid", The U.S. has been suffering from a plague of stupid! Then again, have you ever met anyone that readily admits they are a lousy driver even when they are not using a cell phone?
Of course the Radio talk show hosts aren't banging the drum on this because after all, much of their participation comes from people who are driving and calling into their shows. Which is reflective of how much these people care about you. Now we don't expect much out of the Preston Youngs (WFLA Tallahassee) of the radiosphere. But Kim Commando? Come on. This lady is smart and technology is her game. She knows. So she gives away products to increase the number of road callers.
And this my friends is why "big" government has to step in. Because certain state legislators are either on the dole or do not have enough balls/vagina to freaking do whats right. With Freedom comes responsibility. When you cop a driver license to give you the Freedom to get from point A to point B in a vehicle you are given one on the assumption that you are accepting the responsibility of doing so without running over anybody.
Here are the facts, hands free or not, driving while using a cell phone is the same as driving legally intoxicated. You do not have to believe that. You do not have to believe the world is round or in global warming or peak oil or evolution or whatever. But what happens, is when people insists on being stupid, then government has to make laws to protect the rest of us from you!
H/t z and Gold Iron: SAFETY BOARD SEEKS BAN ON CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING States should ban all driver use of cell phones and other portable electronic devices (PEDs), except in emergencies, urges the National Transportation Board. The NTSB recommendation, unanimously agreed to by the five-member board, applies to both hands-free and hand-held phones and significantly exceeds any existing state laws restricting texting and cellphone use by drivers.
