The S.O.P.A. Post by an Angry Biker!
WAKE UP AMERICA-The same mechanisms that keep information out of China and other countries are about to be implemented in the United Sates of America! Conversely the methods used to suppress news coming out of oppressed countries such as the recent Arab Spring can and will be implemented on our shores!
Professor Lawrence Lessig, Harvard Law School: “As we’ve seen, our constitutional system requires limits on copyright as a way to assure that copyright holders do not to heavily influence the development and distribution of our culture.” “Copyrights have not expired, and will not expire, so long as Congress is free to be bought to extend them again.” “In these times, the hardest task for social or political activists is to find a way to get people to wonder again about what we all believe is true. The challenge is to sow doubt.” “If the internet teaches us anything, it is that great value comes from leaving core resources in a commons, where they’re free for people to build upon as they see fit.”

From a Commenter on ZERO HEDGE: My cousin from the US drove up yesterday and my family had him over for supper. At the table, he told me that he would vote for anyone but Obama... His #1 concern is the economy, and would vote for anyone who would make it better. (BTW, my cousin is a well-off engineer in his 40s).
I told him that the foreign military occupations are driving up the cost of living. He disagreed, saying that the military was securing the foreign resources, which in turn provide the US with cheap resources (namely oil). I was more than happy to explain to him that the Military Industrial complex has a tremendous public cost on the American Public, but the "freed" resources are then taken by large, for-profit, Private companies.
These companies then sell the resources for a high price in order to generate tremendous profits. There is therefore an extraction wealth from the public that is funneled into a few large corporations. This means that the military is a tool used to increase the assets of corporation, and meanwhile drive up the cost of living because we are competing against the military in purchasing oil, metals, etc. I said that if the military was suddenly disbanded overnight, the price of oil, steel, copper, etc, would be decimated. My cousin agreed and said that this makes sense.
I then told him how policies and legislation would have been identical under Obama, Romney, Bush, McCain, etc, since these scumbags are all bought by the same people; and that Ron Paul is the only candidate who would shrink the military and the Federal government, and simplify the legal system, and get rid of the Income Tax, all of which would stimulate the economy and reduce the cost of living. Then I told him about the "indefinite detention of Americans" bill that was signed on December 24th while everyone was away for the holidays. My cousin was shocked because he had no idea about that and had heard nothing about it.
(Editors note: This does not mean we support Ron Paul. This comment is printed in it's entirety as we felt the commentator was making some astute observations. Think CRITICALLY)!
Then I told him that the IRS/Income Tax and the Federal Reserve bills were also signed in 1913 just before Christmas when all the senators and congress were on holidays. I could see that his mind was starting to get enlightened. Then I let him play with my new remote-controlled helicopter and he probably forgot everything.

The U.S. targets the enemy-You and I
While the Department of Homeland Security is already being sued by the Electronic privacy information center for spying, Yet Congress wants more surveillance!
(emphasis ours)
WASHINGTON | Fri Jan 13, 2012 2:32am GMT
(Reuters) - Leaders of a congressional subcommittee are urging the Department of Homeland Security to extensively monitor social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to detect "current or emerging threats."
The top Republican and Democrat on a House counter-terrorism subcommittee last month sent a letter to Homeland Security's intelligence chief encouraging department analysts to pore over huge streams of social media traffic.
Representatives Patrick Meehan and Jackie Speier said in the letter to Caryn Wagner, undersecretary of homeland security for intelligence and analysis, that they "believe it would be advantageous for DHS and the broader Intelligence Community to carefully parse the massive streams of data from various social media outlets to identify current or emerging threats to our homeland security."
Meehan, a Republican, is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee's counter-terrorism and intelligence subcommittee. Speier is the panel's ranking Democrat.
The two lawmakers said such monitoring raises "privacy and civil liberties concerns" and suggested that the department issue guidelines which balance citizens' rights with the ability of analysts to identify threats.
Earlier this week, Homeland Security's National Operations Center published a long list of websites ( ed. note, for a partial list see here) which they monitor for "situational awareness."
Meehan added: "If terrorists are operating in Pakistan or communicating through social media sites like Facebook, we need to remain vigilant. Yet there are important civil liberties questions involving U.S. government monitoring of social media and Americans' Internet traffic. We are seeking answers on the Department's guidelines and procedures to ensure Americans' civil liberties are safeguarded."
Matthew Chandler, a Homeland Security spokesman, said the department's operations center monitors social media only "within the clearly defined parameters articulated" in published department privacy guildelines.
Among websites on the center's favorites list were social media like Twitter, Facebook and My Space; video and photo sharing sites like Hulu, YouTube and Flickr; news and gossip sites like Huffington Post and Drudge Report; and sites like Cryptome and WikiLeaks which publish leaked documents.
Maureen Keith, a spokeswoman for Meehan, said the lawmakers' letter, dated December 16, had not been previously released.
Homeland Security monitoring these websites
To the best of our knowledge this list of sites being monitored by Homeland is as of this date. We would advise that no one assume this is a complete list. We would also how many taxpayer dollars are being spent to engage in this monitoring.
It's TOUGH to be an American and practice Citizenship 101!
I first met Artie on a PGR run. The first thing I learned was, damn he can ride. The second thing was, he thinks. I finished reading this from Artie and just sat there staring at it thinking, damn. Hope it does the same for you:
From ARTIE :
From ARTIE :
It's TOUGH to be an American and practice Citizenship 101! The MOST IGNORANT UN-AMERICAN STATEMENT I HAVE SEEN ON FACEBOOK IS: <<the US Supreme Court has ruled that you have the right under the First Amendment to protest military funerals... I invite you to start your protest in my front yard and we can see if your first amendment is better than my Second Amendment.>> It’s going viral this evening, and being reposted as fast as unthinking, bleating sheeple can copy and paste it. It’s so popular, that when I pointed out its’ Constitutional flaws, one active service member said I was un-American, should leave the country, and had no Constitutional rights because I had not served in the military. I even had some long term so-called friends and their families get pissed-off because I dared question such a quote “patriotic statement”. My question to those sycophantic followers is “what part of "Freedom of Speech shall not be abridged" did you NOT understand? That’s the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in case you forgot to read it in the last thirty years! The very cornerstone of our Republic!
Why the General Electric, Obama connection is just the tip of the iceberg
In the councils of government we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. - Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961Failure to read can be hazardous to your freedom!
Please Rob me, a Public Service for Our Readers
We had a facebook page once. We got rid of it when we found out that the folk at Facebook were not much concerned with our privacy. Especially if a dollar or two may have been involved. Of course now that it is to late we may get another one....BUT:
Remember Please Rob Me,
the site that tried to raise awareness about the dangers of broadcasting publicly on Foursquare and other geo services when you are not home? I don’t know that any burglaries ever actually occurred as a result of the information on the site, which in any case is not operational any more (it made its point).

But when you take the same idea of location broadcasting and put it on a service with more than 500 million users, it is no longer just academic. People’s houses will get robbed, at least in New Hampshire. A burglary ring
in Nashua, New Hampshire targeted people who checked into places on Facebook, alerting them when they were not home. The police caught them after they broke into 50 homes and stole $100,000 worth of goods.
This seems like a good time to revisit Please Rob Me’s mission statement
:
WARNING WILL ROBINSON WARNING
Because although the following accord via facebook it something to consider since we are all so wired and social now days. Only wish I'd a thought of it before the crooks did.

:The danger is publicly telling people where you are. This is because it leaves one place you’re definitely not… home. So here we are; on one end we’re leaving lights on when we’re going on a holiday, and on the other we’re telling everybody on the internet we’re not home. It gets even worse if you have “friends” who want to colonize your house. That means they have to enter your address, to tell everyone where they are. Your address.. on the internet.. Now you know what to do when people reach for their phone as soon as they enter your home. That’s right, slap them across the face. Please Rob Me, indeed.Add to Technorati Favorites
