Starke Bike Fest, cmon Alice down the rabbit hole.

So like it has been raining a lot in our North Florida neck of the woods. Then the rain cleared and a friend says, ever hear of Starke Bike Fest?  To which we all said nope. Well he says it's this Sat. lets ride over and check it out. To which he got an enthusiastic yeah, o.k., sure, why not.

So Saturday comes and were making the, oh bout 3 hour, trip to Starke. Which is something most folk don't voluntarily do because,  well, they fry people there.  Thats where ol sparky lives behind a big ol razor wire fence.  But hey, it was a nice day, the sun was shining, we were among good friends, so excuse us if we discounted the omen of the tree falling in the road right in front of us. Which of course resulted in the sound of squealing brakes and "oh shits" all at the same time. But hey, it was good day right. So we go around the tree, park and then do our boy scout gig for the day and push the tree out of the way. Which of course was no longer in the way cause by that time we were already on the other side of it. But then we are a considerate bunch and did worry bout any bikes what might be coming behind us. Like we said, it has been raining a lot and folk were going to ride somewhere even if it was somewhere they new little about. A somewhere where even the trees are going, "do not go there." Kinda like "Lord of the Rings" if you will.

We should have known that it was going to be a strange day because we made it all the way to Starke without getting lost. We never go anywhere without getting lost. We get lost if we have a gps. Which of course makes every trip an adventure. And sometimes a very long adventure.

So finally we ride slap into the middle of Starke. It was kinda strange. There was no outskirts of Starke leading to greater downtown Starke. Nope, it's ridin along in the breeze and BOOM, your in Downtown Starke. Which of course leads one to wonder, if one were to wonder, where the hell is uptown Starke. Personally we don't think they have an uptown.

It's kind of quaint little town though, if you put out of your mind for a bit the fact that a bunch them folk make a living off of frying people. But hey, economy is rough ya know. It kinda reminds you of a cross between Stephen King and Back to the Future. They even had a big old building with a clock on it that I took a picture of. I swear I did. I did really. But it's gone........

So anyway, we dismounted our trusty steeds and went off in search of something to eat. And right off we got to say, ounce per ounce grease at the Starke Bike Fest was some of the cheapest grease to be found at any bike Fest.  I'm told it was good grease too. Having been told by the Doc that I need to quit eating grease by the pound I didn't partake. But I did take the word of those that did as evidenced by the many, "I got to go to the bathrooms" that were heard.

apple inc, the best argument against corporate tax cuts

We want to preface this post with a comment on it's irony.  We have posted in the past on the Human rights violations of Apple, inc.  They are legion and well documented so should anyone care, the info is readily available through a few google searches or through this site.  The irony is, not only is Apple the richest country  in America it is also one of the most popular.  Especially among the young.  We can not help but wonder how many human rights, environmental, and political activists use their products and in doing so promote Apples profit over people agenda. rc
The pimp chorus again sang the Corporate tax break mantra at the Republican presidential debates last night as per usual, with Bachman  doing a solo on repatriation of corporate dollars held overseas. If one needs an argument against Corporate tax breaks they need look no further than Apple Inc, to win the debate.

We have done a number of posts on Apple inc. Including once that demonstrates that, were they to choose to do so they could build there products in the U.S. with a minimal hit to profits.

Rep. Cantor, Does economy now trump the Pledge of Allegiance

Somebody Please read the Pledge of Allegiance and explain to  me where it does not talk about one nation, God, unity,  but talks of everyman for him/herself and the rest be damned?

I Pledge Allegiance

I Promise to be faithful and true (Promise my loyalty)

to the flag

to the emblem that stands for and represents

of the United States

all 50 states, each of them individual, and individually represented on the flag

of America

yet formed into a UNION of one Nation.

and to the Republic

And I also pledge my loyalty to the Government that is itself a Republic, a form of government where the PEOPLE are sovereign,

for which it stands,

this government also being represented by the Flag to which I promise loyalty.

one Nation under God,

These 50 individual states are united as a single Republic under the Divine providence of God, "our most powerful resource" (according to the words of President Eisenhower)

Indivisible,

and can not be separated. (This part of the original version of the pledge was written just 30 years after the beginning of the Civil War and demonstrates the unity sought in the years after that divisive period in our history)

with Liberty

The people of this Nation being afforded the freedom to pursue "life, liberty, and happiness",

and Justice

And each person entitled to be treated justly, fairly, and according to proper law and principle,

for All.

And these principles afforded to EVERY AMERICAN, regardless of race, religion, color, creed, or any other criteria. Just as the flag represents 50 individual states that can not be divided or separated, this Nation represents millions of people who can not be separated or divided.FavAdd to Technorati Favorites

1,685 STILL UNACCOUNTED FOR FROM VIETNAM

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=5134227168&view=att&th=1321ff20dd63ac69&attid=0.1&disp=inline&zwDo either of these flags mean anything anymore? How many military engagements have we been involved in since Vietnam?  And yet there are still soldiers from that war unaccounted for?

Even harder to believe, well not really considering the mess Americans have allowed that is now a Kleptocracy, is why those who run around with the flag pins and go to the parades and sing God Bless America and go to the beach on memorial day and do not even know what the Vietnam war was about so are in a position to allow future sons and daughters to suffer the same fate?

Was that a run on sentence?  Well this is a run on issue. Though it should be quit and be done with.  But so called patriotic American citizenry are to burdened to care about the fate of the ones who are sent to far off lands to spill their blood.  Yeah you write them a letter.  Maybe you send a goodie package.  You may even ride motorcycles parade style to their funerals.

BUT WHO IS TELLING THE US GOVERNMENT TO GET THE FUCK OUT OF WARS WE DO NOT BELONG IN AND ACCOUNT FOR THE LIFE OF EVERY SOLDIER.  BEFORE AND AFTER THE LATEST FAD WAR!

So of course the issue runs on..... Check out the following links;

http://www.pow-miafamilies.org/League/Updates.html

http://www.pow-miafamilies.org/League/Op_Ed.html

Then go on about your business of allowing America to crumble before our eyes.  Vote for presidential candidates who promise the moon and the stars, fight about religion, and every other damn issue they think will get through sludge filled brains enough to illicit even more ignorance and votes for the bastards!

Then tell me where you will be the next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance so I can avoid being next to you and puking my guts up.

American reputation tarnished on Wikileaks attacks, free speech, political correctness

Currently being reported in the New York Times is European reaction to Americas response to Wikileaks. We would have to say, they have a damn good argument.  Consider the following paragraphs:

Paris— The United States considers itself a shining beacon of democracy and openness, but for many Europeans Washington’s fierce reaction to the flood of secret diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks displays imperial arrogance and hypocrisy, indicating a post-9/11 obsession with secrecy that contradicts American principles.

American officials and politicians have been widely condemned in the European news media for calling the leaks everything from “terrorism” (Rep. Peter T. King, Rep.-New York) to “an attack against the international community” (Secretary of State Hillary Clinton). Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates called the arrest of Mr. Assange on separate rape charges “good news,” while Sarah Palin called for him to be hunted as an “anti-American operative with blood on his hands” and Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate, said that he should be executed.

For Seumas Milne of The Guardian in London, which has shared the latest WikiLeaks trove with The New York Times, the official American reaction “is tipping over towards derangement.” Most of the leaks are of low-level diplomatic cables, he noted, while concluding: “Not much truck with freedom of information, then, in the land of the free.”
Everything from American Companies to American Officials want to deny Wikileaks a venue from which to have a voice. As we posted here:  Wikileaks, blowback, Karma or just another government screw-up,Much of what wikileaks has been able to do, which to date we have heard little of lives being compromised, is actually the fault of our own government for a couple reasons.

Florida Congressional Candidate Dianne Berryhill is off the chain

Yesterday we posted the following: Florida congressional candidate Dianne Berryhill and Patriot Guard Riders, is she wacko?

Based on her reported threats to sue persons over exercising their constitutional protected right to free speech.  For a person who left the republican party to run as a gun toting  independent we thought to ourselves oh no, this self proclaimed spokesperson could not be attempting to limit the speech of free Americans, could she?  So we again went to her website to insure we read what we read yesterday accurately.  This is what it says:
FREEDOM OF SPEECH: One of our most precious freedoms that we take for granted. As we witness governments in other countries preventing the free flow of information within their borders, we must remain vigilant in ensuring that our methods of communications remain open and free. Attempts by our government to control radio, television and the internet access must not be tolerated
Which is what we posted it said yesterday but considering the whims of politicos  we thought we had better check again in case she took it down.  We do note that the Constitution lists freedom of Speech as being Uno Numero in the constitution and Ms. Berryhill has it at a lowly #11 on her site.

However considering what we have learned today, we suggest she take "Freedom of Speech" off her website as we feel that we can document that, though she may beleive it applies to her, it would seem that she has a problem when others avail themselves of the same right.  And though this separate from the post subject since we are offering her suggestions, then we would also suggest she buy a ticket to Mexico and get her jollies ordering the poor and impoverished around. Oh Lord, did that come out my out loud keyboard, Oh my goodness day.

O.K. so here is what we learned today about Herr Barryhill which is following up on her displeasure with the Patriot Guard we reported on yesterday (we are keeping the name of the individual private as he/she has already been harassed big time):

A PGR (Patriot Guard Rider) witnessed Herr Berryhill being video taped at at a KIA's funeral. He went home and asked his politically aware wife what Berryhill might be doing at a funeral being taped.   His wife runs into Berryhill that afternoon and asked if being taped at the funeral was part of her campaign. His wife tells hem Berryhill, that she was seen by a PGR member at one of the fallens funerals being taped.

Apparently Berryhill follows his wife around wanting more information. She then calls the PGR State Captain and tells him this PGR member his telling all the PGR members that Berryhill was campaigning at the funeral (it is here we must interject an editors opinion. Berrymore is a candidate for a political office. That makes her a politician. Politicians running for office calculate their every move to place themselves in a favorable light with the voters. In other words, when they walk out  of the house they are campaigning. Turn on a camera or light up a microphone and they immediately lose all sense of dignity whatever the occasion and revert to the political animals that they are).

On Sunday this individual contacted Berryhill and told her that he was not spreading word of her campaign among PGR and he felt she owed him and the PGR State Ride Captain an apology in writing.

Apparently she spent 45 minutes on the phone with him, in h his words "talking in circles".  She said they we videoing for the family and the Blue Star moms and that they did not have to tell anybody about anything they were doing or why they were filming.

She also stated she was going to sue for defamation of character (lord forgive us we have to add, this time an editors question?  Does one not first have to have a character before said character can be defamed? Hey this is just a question o.k. I mean like after all we are kind of dumb about these things).

Berryhill contacts this individual on Monday. Apparently some veteran sent her ( we shudder) a "nasty e-mail". She blames him for instigating this action. He states he cut her off requesting that she not call him again.  But before hanging up she threatens to sue him, his wife and the PGR.

He states he then followed up the call with an e-mail stating he wants no more contact from her, but does want the written apology. He advised here that any more contact from her he would consider harassment, to which she replied "bring it on!' (Oh damn I'm lovin this lady more an more. Wonder if she would like to go for a motorcycle ride). Berryhill followed up with she would love to get he and his wife in depositions (Silly me Im still wondering if she would like to be fender fluff for a day).

Ah but you may ask, is that all.  Well hell you ain't been reading this site to often then have you, of course there is more.  But we will just keep that in our back pocket in case she wants to play deposition
with us wherein we seek "discovery" and ask for the financial records of the local blue star moms project  and  Berryhills campaign financial records.  Not that we are in the least bit suggesting any financial misdealing on Berryhills part because we are not.  Cause if we did think it we would say it because last time we checked it was not against the law in America to voice an opinion.

Yeah we know there is a thing about hate speech but we don't hate Herr Berryhill.  In fact we admire the ability of a person who can talk out of both sides of their mouth to find anybody that would support their candidacy.  But then again, as P.T. Barnum said, there is a sucker Born every minute.

But hears the gig o.k. now that we have had our little fun.  This whole situation is sad.  It is sad because it is a prime example of how "We the people" sucker ourselves.

I have talked to people who choose to vote for a particular individual based solely on whether or not
the person is for or against the second amendment, or for or against abortion, or for or against immigration, or whether or not the candidate rides a motorcycle and on and on.........

They look for one issue candidates and express support with out having any knowledge of how the rest of the candidates platform will affect them. Case in point, Berryhill makes a statement on her website referencing how lowering Corporate tax rates in Ireland are only 12.5% while in the U.S. they are 39.5%.  As if Ireland's economic policy might be one the U.S. should emulate?

But before we decide whether or not we want to follow a European Countries path to Sovereign Default we may want to take a look at just how that rate seems to working out for Ireland: Is Ireland the next big bomb in the global debt crisis?

The problems facing this country are to complex and immense to be left in the hands of those we have already mistakenly placed them in.  To place them in the hands of the likes of Berryhill who shows as little a grasp on economics as she does constitutional protections would border on traitorous negligence.

The Tea Party has cut it's own throat through bias-possibly hurting any chance for real reform

It becomes increasingly difficult to find out just who the Tea Party represents and just what exactly does the Tea Party want.  I'm sure Rick Santelli the first person to suggest we need a Tea Party would not recognize or claim what has evolved from his rant "heard around the world".

His premise was short and simple. Containing none of the ultra conservative agenda, disguised racism and  hate mongering seen at many tea party gatherings today.

What is extremely interesting having paid close attention to the health bill debates and the follow up after it's passage, the number of tea party idolized republicans who have lied, changed their stories and seek future campaign money on the false assertion that they could do what they can not do, repeal the health bill. The insanity, or maybe stroke of genius as it fans the flames of fanaticism, is that most of those telling you they will run on a repeal the health reform legislation know damn good and well that they can't.

In other words they are deliberately lying to get votes and have been all along.

These are issues that have confused me for awhile now.  How is it that a great number of working class citizens can swear allegiance to a party or candidates that have raped them over the coals and treated them as cattle for votes.

We understand that many Americans get their news from e-mail forwards or the Holy Trinity of Rush, Beck and Hannity. Swallowing it without question as gospel.  But as Ed Stossel would say, "Give me a break".

We warned the First Tea Party organizer in our area that there was danger inherent in aligning oneself with any one political party, to which he agreed. He recognized the problem.

The second Tea Party in our area got little participation until it was time for the free fireworks. Then the folk showed up.

The third Tea Party turned into a much misinformed sermon on mount, excuse me, capital steps by a local former minister turned talk show host who seems to confuse the constitution with the Bible.

Now Tea Party rallies have become venues for every write wing wacko that could not spell socialism much less define it.

I did not agree with the war in Vietnam. Yet I never and would never "spit" on a soldier. So I find it just as disgraceful to watch somebody "spit" on a member of the government. Especially when they do it in a venue whereby that member can not  respond as many would have, by kicking the shit out of the
chicken shit quasi "revolutionary."

Spitting is a poor argument, piss poor ammunition and a good indication of an individuals gene pool.

Does this mean that I am a supporter of the current status of our current Governmental/Corporate regime? No!  It  means that I understand that the issue is so much more than  "left vs. right".
By continuing to divide ourselves along those lines we fail to recognize the true enemy and in the process of fighting each other we will all lose.

Losing any revolutionary endeavor as serious as forcing the government revert to the Declaration of Independence and Constitution as it applies to "all people"  and not just the "gentry" of the times.
Remember, the original founders of the constitution left out a few of the "all people are created equal."

You  know like slaves, women, Indians, non- Christians and was in fact was somewhat contradictory in comparison to the Declaration of Independence.  Fortunately over time wise men and women have
addressed those omissions of economic expediency.

But then to know these things one must not only read the constitution but read the why's and wherefore's of original constitutional construct.  Alas, such an undertaking might take longer that than reading an e-mail forwarded by 15 zillion people asking that you also forward the misleading information to 15 zillion friends proving to your 15 zillion friends that:

A. You obviously just looked at the pictures and didn't read it,
B.  If you did read it then you just forwarded it as a joke as surely you were not gullible enough to believe the garbage, or
C.  Maybe you are a dumbass and your 15 zillion friends have just clicked the spam box on your e addy!

We have submitted in the past and we will continue to do so in the future, despite our dislike of pissing in the wind, to ask, encourage, beg, cajole, people to look up the words Oligarchy and Klepocracy.
It is in those definitions you will find the enemy described.  Of course if you are ok with filling the pockets of corrupt officials on both sides of the aisle from the national government down to the lowliest municipal clerk, as if we were in bureaucratic Russia, well hell just keep on doing what you are doing. The noose you weave is your own.

From Geithner: Disparity in recovery 'deeply unfair':

WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Thursday it's "deeply unfair" that some financial institutions that got taxpayer-paid bailouts are emerging in better shape from the recession than millions of ordinary Americans. He acknowledged public outrage over that and said people watched with disdain as Washington protected high-risk banks and investment houses, even as the national unemployment rate was soaring to double-digit levels for the first time in a generation.
From Wall St. posts 1Q gains even if Main St. doesn't:
The question now is whether the economy has sufficient strength to not only justify those gains but send shares even higher.  So far, most of the economy's vigor has been at the corporate level. Companies that collectively shed millions of workers during the recession now are reaping gains in productivity, meaning fewer workers are producing more goods and services. Those productivity gains, Dickson said, have enabled companies to grow their bottom-line profits even as top-line sales have stagnated.
In other words with technology and shipping jobs overseas companies can achieve profits without hiring or hiring at lower wages with fewer benefits!

Money made by the top five hedge fund managers last year:
  • David Tepper, Appaloosa Management: $4 billion
  • George Soros, Soros Fund Management: $3.3 billion
  • James Simons, Renaissance Technologies: $2.5 billion
  • John Paulson, Paulson & Company: $2.3 billion
  • Steve Cohen, SAC Capital Advisors: $1.3 billion
Of course we are not ones to begrudge one the fruits of capitalism. However any clue as to how the top guy did it?  Bought the banks in crises because he knew that the government would not let them fail.
And fail they didn't because we, you and I bailed them out.  We, you and I, also contributed to a very good pay day for Mr. Tepper.  Mr. Teppers fund lost money the year before that. But then that was before the tax payers were being gang raped.  Prior to that it was just rape!

This is truly a shining example of "redistribution of wealth"!

From Phillip Davis:

So we’re going to ignore the 439,000 people who lost their jobs last week and focus on the fact that it’s 6,000 people LESS than the 445,000 people who lost their jobs the week before last. Last week they said it was because of the weather so thank goodness that storm has passed! We’ll also ignore the Challenger Job-Cut Report, which shows 67,611 planned layoffs, up 59% from last month’s 42,090 but hey - that’s NOT 60%! We (my MSM bretheren and I) will focus on the March Monster Employment Index, which came in at 125, up a whopping 1 point from last month and up 6% from last year when things were totally collapsing and the S&P was racing to 666.

Speaking of Goldman - the company just (9am) lowered their Non-Farm payroll forecast to +200,000 from +275,000 but that’s not bothering the futures. 75,000 census workers will be included in that count, according to GS, and 100,000 will be a rebound from February’s poor weather, so that’s a whopping 25,000 actual jobs added in March if they are right. We don’t get that data until tomorrow, when we are closed,
Yepper, we hired some more service workers and the weather gave us break  so the economy is full speed ahead.  Which it is of course if you are David Tepper, which of course you are not!

You also are not a member of the  Republican National Committee, oh hell maybe you are:

WASHINGTON - The Republican National Committee has fired a staffer who helped organize a $1,946 visit last month to a sex-themed Hollywood club, and the GOP says it will recoup the money from a donor who also participated.
and

The most recent financial disclosure report said the RNC spent more than $17,000 for private planes in February and nearly $13,000 for car services. Heye said such services are used only when needed.McKay's memo says the RNC is committed to using donors' funds efficiently and responsibly.
and

The conservative group Concerned Women for America said the RNC should disclose more about the episode. Did they really agree to reimburse nearly $2,000 for a bondage-themed night club?" group president Penny Nance asked in a statement. "Why would a staffer believe that this is acceptable, and has this kind of thing been approved in the past?"
Ummm, maybe Ms. Nance, because all to many politicians are engaged in speaking one way in front of the camera, but behaving another way with taxpayer dollars at nightclubs and airport bathroom stalls?

So lets see some more, ok!

Much of the most lavish spending by the major political parties is associated with fundraisers, which often target wealthy people. The RNC spent $144,549 for rooms at the Four Seasons Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyo., in 2009. On March 19, 2009, it spent $31,980 for catering by the Breakers Palm Beach in Florida. The RNC paid $18,361 over the past several months to the "Tiny Jewel Box" in Washington for "office supplies," which may have included trinkets or gifts for big donors. It spent $13,622 at Dylan's Candy Bar in New York City.
and
Some donors grumbled when Steele spent more than $18,000 to redecorate his office. Steele, a former Maryland lieutenant governor, also has received substantial fees for making speeches, even though the RNC pays him a full-time salary.  Steele's supporters say he has brought a refreshing frankness and energy to the party's leadership.
Hey yo Tea Party People and Right Wing Christians.   Are they buying you  little ol trinkets for your vote? Nah, they just depend on your blindness, bigotry and ignorance. Seems to be working too doesn't it?  Your our of work or working harder for less and bitching about a health care bill that will keep Insurance Companies from raising YOUR rates 39% so they too can eat at the corporate/governmental alliance cafeteria with Lobbyist from Blackwater, whoops I mean "Xe" (we forgot about the name of the Mercenary Organization founded by a right wing Christian who profits off of death for hire with tax payer money).  Hmm when was the last time you ate there.

Oh yeah I forgot you were helping children that couldn't get Health care for birth defects because they are "pre-existing conditions." Oh yeah, another oh yeah, how about those death forums the Leather clad Hottie from Alaska warned you were out to get your grandmothers. How is that working out now that the bill has bast.  Any "Soylent Green"  pleasant death emporiums open up in your neighborhood yet?  Hmmmm, I thought not.  So what was that all about anyway??????

And of course right wing Christians are all for spending that kind of money  to find somebody who will vote against abortion.  Even if it does necessitate wining and dining them at a bondage strip club and ignoring the "Health of the little children" that  could have been served by some of that money.

After all, all Christian teachings are null and void until all the "abortionists" are burned at the stake as were so called witches whose crimes consisted of learning from the Indians how to use various herbs and spices to cure their families illnesses and make good fried turkey for Thanksgiving. O.K. maybe one or two flung with an Indian.  I guess forgiveness or salvation did not apply to them.

No one is safe less they give up one approved party line for the other approved party line!

After all, it won't be us wanting to pay for the children who may live a life of misery with health problems because we voted against health care.  It won't be us who will suffer from the back room botch jobs performed on those lower class women by hacks because we can afford to discretely go overseas, take care of our little problem and come home the sainted, unblemished angels we perceive ourselves to be. History anybody?

Besides we can not allow women to make these decisions can we now "Macho man".  So lets turn their salvation over to a Catholic Priest if we can find one that isn't glued to a peep hole to the alter boys changing room.

Yes I agree everything written above is totally absurd.  It is also totally true.  So I am going to have to assume that the truth is absurd and hypocrisy is the preferred state of affairs.

A friend of mine who leans, oh I am guessing, a bit more to the right than I voiced our desire for some voice of clarity to rise up out of the chaos.  But that can't happen.  Well it can, the problem is that whenever such a voice does arise somebody kills it.  Abraham, Martin, John, Bobby, Jesus...........

Ah what the hell, I love chaos and "Waiting for Godot" was one of my favorites.

ABATE of FLorida lobbyist now targeting sport bikers

As a result of an upcoming conference a number of e-mails are ending up in my box relating to what some people find hilarious and some are outraged by. And that is the fact that the ABATE of Florida prez/ paid lobbyist ( and we still wonder, just where does the money go?) will be speaking at a "Sportbikers Conference,"
Bikers Empowerment Training Conference http://www.betconference.com/.

This is the man that up until a couple years ago was still referring to sport bikes as "crotch-rockets"?

So we have provided the info. By mail and here. It is our sincerest hope that some others may learn through the mistakes made by the citizenry of Florida that faced an extremely oppressive, constitutionally questionable, session last year.

Florida has been on the forefront of seeking ways to restrict, oppress, or remove Individual rights.

It has been successful to an extent by virtue of the failure of many of it's citizens to involve themselves in the process.  To  move beyond apathy, to educate themselves beyond the forwards that land in their e-mail,  by embracing defeat and surrender to avoid confrontation, and by laying gown instead of standing up.

For a man who has built a career on violating the rights of the members of his own organization to speak at an empowerment conference is ludicrous!

To all who have asked re: Doc Reichenbach and Sport Bikers
(e-mailed to all who asked, feel free to pass it on)

Recently a number of people have contacted me asking about the President/Lobbyist of ABATE of Florida's, Doc Reichenbach's, statement, made, during the battle over the Florida Legislatures attempt to pass legislation allowing the state to sieze motorcycles that the motorcyclists (sport-bikers) depicted in a film were, “not bikers.”

My apologies for being late in responding. I have had some medical problems as a result of an MC crash.

I was present at the meeting in question and heard him make the comment. He later tried to clarify the
statement by stating he was referring only to the persons in the film who were breaking the law. He was also quoted making the following statement to the Miami Herald News,

"'I don't consider those people bikers,'' said James ''Doc'' Reichenbach , president of ABATE of Florida. ``Every time someone is killed or there is a major accident, law-abiding bikers get categorized. I would call those thrill-seekers, and if they break the law we agree that they should pay a penalty.''"

as posted on Bruce and RC's motorcycle forum here: http://pub42.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.php?usernum=3562429698&frmid=48&msgid=971141&cmd=show

However as those of us who were involved in the fight against this egregious legislation are aware, many of his statements were disingenuous and did not match his actual actions. If you will remember it was the ABATE President/lobbyist that put out emails that the bill “hb137” was dead, stop writing your legislators (10-12-07 wherein the ABATE of Florida legislative representative offererd what could be construed as a positive statement re: the sponsor of the bill Lopez-Canterra,

“ Know that the sponsor is new to the legislature and is generally an ABATE supporter, but he is trying to crack down on the flyboy/flygirl stunt riders or anyone racing around and riding wheelie.”
http://www.bigbendbikersforfreedom.com/2007/10/continuing-questions-reabate-of.html) and that he was not working with the Bills sponsor Representative Lopez-Canterra. This despite an aide in his office telling us over the phone that Doc Reichenbach was working with Canterra and our posting of a letter from Canterra validating that the ABATE President/lobbyist was doing so, see: http://www.bigbendbikersforfreedom.com/2007/11/one-letter-from-politician-cantera-one.html

As we all know HB 137 turned into a nightmare of a bill that would impact all of us who ride that we first warned about on our site here on 9-27-07 here: http://www.bigbendbikersforfreedom.com/2007/09/sport-bikers-and-rest-of-us-beware.html
and that Lopez-Canterras had personal reasons for introducing the bill that had nothing to do with motorcycle safety as we posted here: http://www.bigbendbikersforfreedom.com/2008/11/florida-representative-lopez-cantera.html

Dara Mclain and I attended a number of committee meetings at the Florida State Capital to speak out against this legislation, as we did to speak out against it's eventual permutation into SB1992, both of which were supported by the ABATE lobbyist, James D. Reichenbach.

The request for this info came along with notification, followed by a press release that the ABATE lobbyist would be presenting at the 7th Annual PRO (Public Relations Officers) Convention and
Bikers Empowerment Training Conference http://www.betconference.com/.

The Press release would be funny were it not so sad that enough people have taken what is contained therein as truth without doing the research. For example:

“Some topics of Doc's address may include ABATE of Florida 's many legislative successes over its almost

30 year history, including the long battle and resulting success repealing Florida 's Helmet Law in 2001.”

This, along with a number of other bogus claims, is far from the “REAL” truth which reading this post will plainly reveal: http://www.bigbendbikersforfreedom.com/2009/04/wctv-helps-abate-of-florida-lobbyist.html

In a time of 2 minute sound byte news and increasing government intrusion in our lives it should be incumbent upon all of us to learn the truth of our history if we are to have any hope at saving ourselves from those who would oppress us and the charlatans that would profit off us.

Cash for Clunkers-situational Conservatism

I know a gentleman that just recently traded in his Gas Guzzling truck for a new gas guzzling truck, paying cash with help from the Governments Cash for Clunkers program.

Ironically this particular individual worships at the holy trinity of Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity and Bill O'rielly And will argue to death any issue that even smells of a tad of "liberalism".

Now this gentleman keeps current on the news and all the conservative issues, which of course is how he became aware of the cash for clunkers program.  A billion dollar government program that is supposed to serve two purposes, stimulate consumer spending (i.e. bail out car companies and dealers) and get guzzlers off the road thereby improving the environment.

These two goals are accomplished in two ways, taking money from one segment of society and giving it to another and requiring that the vehicle you purchase gets an increase in mpg of at least a whopping "4 miles per gallon".

On a national level this is similiar to Florida's Bright Futures Scholarship Program which takes money from one segment of the population and gives it to richer segment of the population, many of them conservatives, so that they may send their kids to college.

So I am confused. Just how does that conservative agenda work? "Less taxes and fewer government entitlements unless I can benefit from them????"

Mr. Lopez-Cantera:

Every year in the state of Florida Motorcyclist are killed, not by failure to wear helmets, but by people who violate their right of way, and are distracted by any number of technological
devices that take their attention from the road. Yet you chose to target sport bikers who make up a fraction of the cause of fatalities. this stance results in one of a few post we have made today starting here:

http://www.bigbendbikersforfreedom.com/2008/11/florida-representative-lopez-cantera.html

We will pray that you do not have a child that someday chooses to ride a motorcycle and and as a result of that choice gets taken out by an SUV driving, cell phone talking driver that blows a stop sign killing them who then walks away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist fine.Add to Technorati Favorites

NCOM, ABATE of Florida-who represents what?

(Richard "Quiq" Quigley, rest in peace the battle continues)

These two statements were taken from one of the first hits if you google NCOM (national coalition of motorcyclists)

"NCOM is not another association, but rather a bringing together of existing motorcycle groups for the purpose of mutual exchange of information, legislative strategy and the combined strength to fight all that is adverse to the freedom of the road"

"NCOM is managed by bikers for bikers. Through its Board of Directors, comprised of motorcyclist rights leaders representing 9 regions of the United States, and a Legislative Task Force that includes six elected state and federal legislators plus many other experienced legislative advocates from across the country, we have the talent and expertise to serve the motorcycling community whenever called upon to do so."

Interestingly enough if you hit Home on that site you are taken to an Attorneys page. See here
.

ABATE of Florida erroneously lays claim to being the ones primarily responsible for getting the Florida helmet law "modified" as evidenced by this statement,

GOING TO BIKE WEEK?
ABATE of Florida, Inc. won a great victory in Florida this year. Everyone now has the right to decide for themselves if they wish to wear a helmet or not. It was a long and costly battle not only in money but also for the Brothers and Sisters that were not here to see their dream come true.

The cost of this freedom has put a drain on ABATE's treasury. We are not asking for money from anyone, what we are asking is that you consider staying at our ABATE Campground during Bike Week 2001. The money made at the campground will go to help the organization keep this a free state. Our rates are the best in the Daytona area and it is only 20 minutes from downtown Daytona. Listed below are the rates and phone numbers of our contact people. As you can see, the money you save will pay for your trip and give you extra to buy those new leathers you've been thinking about.
DOC REICHENBACH, PRESIDENT
ABATE OF FLORIDA

Posted by Bill Bish of NCOM on NCOM news Bytes here on September of 2000. With the following banner Heading the page:

We have posted before about what we perceive (NOTE the words perceive for any who have threatened legal action that may actually dumb enough to engage in it) to be an unholy alliance between the two.

However some of the reasons for maintaining such perceptions are illustrated in this post dated 12-10-07 one of many questioning this dubious relationship:

Who was Duped? MRF? ABATE of FLORIDA? Motorcyclists?

Now California Biker Rights activists are in the fight of their lives to continue and win Richard "Quig" Quigleys long standing fight against the California Helmet law whose history includes just about every law enforcement body responsible for enforcing the law violating the law.

Meaning this has ramifications that reach far beyond "Helmet laws" and into the arena of individual rights. See:

Start Your New Year Off by Striking a Blow for YOUR rights.

BOLT (Bikers of Lesser Tolerance) and ABATE of California and others came together to form a coalition of rights activist to insure once and for all this threat to OUR (meaning all of us) "Individual rights' is defeated and put out a nationwide call for help.

ABATE from the tiny state of Delaware was the first to respond donating $8000.00 to the cause. see:

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE ... WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CONTINUE QUIGLEY'S QUEST

It would appear that maybe NCOM and ABATE of Florida (whose president James D.
Reichenbach also serves as Chairman of the NCOM Board of Directors) may not have got the word that their "Brothers" were in need of help. As evidenced by this response from a California person in the know, to a recent inquiry,

"There has been no response from NCOM and ABATE of Florida. My guess is they will continue to be silent unless they can find a way to criticize the judicial effort. For them it is not about Bikers Rights, it is about money for Richard Lester and his cronies."

(Note: If this is not so we welcome a response from the president of ABATE of Florida)

But then ABATE of Florida did change it's name from "A BROTHERHOOD Against Totalitarian Enactments" to "American Bikers Aimed Towards Education."

So maybe it's just a case of forgetting what "Brotherhood" is or, "We got ours, now you get yours"

Or maybe they just forgot these little tid bits of history from Tony Pan Sanfelipo (active in the right movement for 29 years and has been riding motorcycles for 36 years. In addition to being the founder of ABATE of WI and BOLT (Bikers Of Lesser Tolerance) he belongs to many other biker's rights groups such as USFF, HLDL, and ABATE of WI. Tony has completed a course called "Two Wheel Trauma" that was given for medical personnel and went on to become nationally registered as an EMT. He is the Head Road Guard for former Governor Thompson’s (now U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services) Harley Tours. Tony works for Michael F. Hupy and Associates, S.C. in Milwaukee and has 10 years of investigative field work as a motorcycle case specialist.) wrote in 1996 (see the whole article here):

"Time has proven that to be a grave error on their part. But luckily, some less controversial individuals picked up on what was being said, and some interestingly enough, figured it out for themselves. Case after case was brought to various venues, and some actually were successful. For the most part, these were lower court rulings, and again were met with skepticism. One case which went to county court in Florida was Florida vs Yasko. Chico had independently taken on the battle with not much help, but a lot of criticism, in Florida. Even though he won his case, the result was minimized by his local ABATE chapter as only a county court case ruling. They just didn't get it. Probably because of personality problems with Chico, or whatever, but they couldn't find it in their minds or hearts to realize and appreciate what had happened here."

And

"Pity some people can't swallow a little pride and remember what we're all here for. I thank Chico in Florida for sticking with his cause at great personal sacrifice and humiliation. I thank Attorney Ed Alden for figuring this out for himself, taking it to court and winning in Washington State, then becoming an HLDL Director for that state. I thank Skip Raring for taking the Easyriders case to fruition in California under the same premises. And most of all I thank Steve Bianco and Richard Quigley for showing the way to do this all, despite tremendous pressure from various quarters of the motorcycle community in California. Especially Richard Quigley. He's arrogant, cantankerous, obnoxious, objectionable, irritable, unfriendly, unruly, and absolutely right about just about everything, especially about not bowing down to the absurd 21-and-under modification language on helmet laws. That is an HLDL and BOLT belief and opinion, not shared by other MRO's, but certainly shared by a number of individual motorcyclists."

It is understood that each state ABATE operates independently in a manner it perceives as being in the best interest of the motorcyclists in their state. Which is a good thing. But when certain members attempt to insert themselves into a position to influence national policy claiming to represent "Bikers" while ignoring one of the biggest motorcycle rights battles in the country one has to wonder about the motivation. Especially after comments he made at the last ABATE of Florida State meeting held in Pensacola such as:

"He did go on to rant about how “internet cowboys” offering support from outside of the state were hurting our cause and upsetting legislators. He mentioned, one nasty letter received from California that upset some politicians. Doc stated that “California needs to get their own act together” in regards to the helmet law."

See the rest of my notes from that meeting here:

Highlights from ABATE of FLorida State meeting-ABATE will support hands free exemption cell phone bill

It would appear that the word "BROTHERHOOD" is effectively dead and buried as is the phrase "principles before personalities" in some circles. Unfortunately for us that many of those circles happen to be in the "Freedom" movements. Ride long, Ride Hard, Ride Free (while you can). rcAdd to Technorati Favorites

Response to ABATE of Florida's attempt at "Orwellian" speak

“NTSB according to this Garp” also posted here:

This “Orwellian” speech is eerily similar to the type of language one hears prior to calls for censorship and other infringements of freedoms. In fact it is the same type language that cults use to keep their “followers” from being exposed to any information that may contradict indoctrination of it's members.

To ask people to delete information with out first reading it, researching it and arriving at their own assessment of the truth contradicts the very foundations of “free” and individual “thought” and infers either A. a fear of the truth or B. fear of member reaction when they know the truth.

To refer to persons as “terrorists” for expressing a point of view other than the party line is a tact that is in fact, relied on by “terrorists”. To the radical Islamist we are “all” infidels. A culture that also attempts to dictate what their adherents do and do not read or how they do or do not think.

Which only goes to illustrate the Totalitarianism that ABATE professes to be against yet through double speak tries to establish.

Vague references to unidentified “accomplishments” couple by painting all who disagree with the same brush is again a tactic of an insular group grasping at straws to convince people they should ignore the wind that is blowing the house made of sticks down. Attempting to convince them that yes, the “emperor” does wear clothes and the sky is not falling. Just believe what you are told.

You insult the intelligence of your membership with statements such as these. If ABATE of Florida is proud of it's record and trusts the intelligence of it's members, then why not encourage them to seek out
the truth. Instead of branding those who would print the truth as “terrorists”. Point them in the direction of the information you would ask them to delete and instead ask them to read it, research it, and “use their own minds to determine the truth”. Or are you afraid that the truth would hold the organization up for the paper tiger that it is and the members, once learning of the truth would revolt.

Some of us don't burn records and tapes and can link to the truths you so desperately wish to hide. We are also very capable of logging into the ABATE of Florida website and counting the 20 some odd years of “accomplishments” achieved by ABATE of Florida. It is not a long list. For sure not a $50,000.00 a year list.

If those of us who exercise our freedom to disagree with the “politics” of ABATE of Florida can be referred to as “vulgar terrorists” Then do not whine in righteous indignation when your leader is accused of “Treason” to the Motorcycle Rights Movement by A. Abuse of Power by violating and manipulating the organizational by-laws to maintain personal power, B. Misrepresenting the general membership and C. Sleeping with the enemy.

Addendum: The issuance of message of the nature of the post below would be funny were it not so sad. ABATE nationwide has a proud history that some have betrayed in order to feel warm and fuzzy in bed with the "nannycrats". You can not fight for the Freedom of others until you break the chains of your own bondage.

Subject: Legislative announcement, condolences, more to come later, NTSB statement/clarification

Primary list….

At the State Meeting, it was announced that Mike Price will be a Legislative Assistant to assist in better covering our legislative issues at the State level.
Mike and his wife Linda were enroute to the December State Meeting and they learned Linda’s mother had passed away. Mike had to leave immediately after the meeting to catch a plane and join Linda. Please take time to pass along a prayer of condolences for their loss. I am unclear if they are safely home yet, but see a message from Mike tonight.

I appreciate Mike’s help and will appreciate everyone passing the word later when we begin searching for more help with some specific items. These will not necessarily have to be people who are legislative officers or with legislative backgrounds, but likely will require some computer skills. There are different folks who have helped in different ways over the years and all are appreciated. I would like to specifically thank John Banta as he has always been there in support with research and related activities, including needed support when we are making the run to the Capitol. I have not previously been successful in getting him to spell me entirely, but appreciate him always being there. As we proceed, we will have more details in regard to additional assistants to help with some specific items, more later.

NTSB according to this Garp
I also appreciate all the different folks who have forwarded information in regard to some scandalous remarks in regard to the recent NTSB meeting. I am going to share some thoughts with you to help frame this for members you have who are newer and not aware of how we have accomplished the things we have over the years. I am not actually reading things that are sent to me by those whom I consider terrorists to our organization, time is too precious. My advice would be similar. Delete it. Don’t argue or waste more time with them. Spend your time working with people to help get things done or establishing and maintaining an open line of communication with your elected officials. I have failed to do so in the past, so I no longer try to reason with the terrorists who are always condemning us. I do, however, respond to members with questions who are trying to further our interests and work toward our goals. When they forward things and ask what to do or what to say. I try to respond.

To be clear on this latest item being brought to my attention from different areas around the state is one of our naysayers condemning ABATE OF FLORIDA and the MRF for involving themselves in dialogue with the national Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). What you have not seen is his more pitiful and vulgar version that he sent to each who had attended the meeting.

For the newer folks and those newer to the email and computer thing, we seem to have a world of people tooting their own horns over the internet with prescriptions to righteous roads galore. A couple of these self declared freedom fighters that I am most often forwarded info from unfortunately have a lot in common - in reality, they have no real accomplishments in this arena to share with you. For lack of a better way to say it, they have generally failed to actually accomplish a single thing other than generally pissing some people off. It is not that freedom of expression does not have its uses, but Freedom Fighters in our terms take it a step further than complain and criticize whatever anyone else says or does.

We involve ourselves in fundraising to meet our goals. We support a lobbyist because we know that dialogue is necessary to achieve our goals, as well as to protect and preserve what we have. We work together as a legislative grassroots organization and we accomplish this by engaging in dialogue and communication with our elected officials, their staffs and yes, agencies and bureaucrats alike. Essentially, we do whatever it takes to establish and maintain the rapport necessary to help meet our needs. Unlike some others, we can make lists of things we have accomplished together that affect all motorcyclists. In our own communities, we have accomplishments that are more local in nature, but important locally as well. We are always looking for ways to engage people who help further our cause.

Regardless of the poison that is flying out there in internet land, know it is good we have opened a direct line of communication with the NTSB. I salute Doc for having not only made the effort, but for succeeding in having obtained the meeting and also in establishing a rapport. There are countless folks who would not and have not succeeded in getting a meeting to begin with. Only a handful might have what it takes to actually establish a rapport.

In case there is someone who has failed to notice, Florida remains a prime NHTSA target. We have unfortunately enjoyed far too much of their attention for the last several years. Make no mistake that NHTSA has felt the heat in the past; we passed a law to keep them from lobbying our state legislatures. They came specifically at us in Florida with both barrels in 2006 and came up empty handed in 2007. Their pressing the NTSB into their service is indicative of their desperation to toss some more crap at us in hopes that something will stick in 2008.

I find it ridiculous for anyone to suggest that meeting with anyone to further our interests and relationships somehow betrays us. This is what we do. It is who we are. Some of us have to work at it, some of us do it all of the time. The longer you are involved, the more likely you will simply do it all of the time. Establishing a rapport and simply meeting with people is truly the way we get things done. Sometimes good things just happen because someone we meet happens to be in a place to help. It does not mean that people who help us have to have something in return and vice versa.

It was not that long ago we were in Tallahassee for our annual trip to meet our legislators we took a little extra time and made some extra efforts to meet and share with some folks from the DHSMV and DOT. We took the same opportunity to invite them to come to our Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Symposium that would take place later. Some of them came and on that date, I went out in the hall during a break. One of our members was not happy when he explained how the contractor on the turnpike ordered all of our motorcycle awareness posters to be taken down. I pointed out to him one of the folks we met in Tallahassee who was in attendance that day and asked TJ to go introduce himself and explain the same to him and ask his advice on how we might deal with this. Imagine how delighted TJ was to call and tell me the person he spoke to went back to his office in Tallahassee the following week and made a phone call to tell the right person and let them know they wanted our awareness posters back up. No one promised to do anything for this person. He was simply exposed to folks doing the right thing and was in a position to help them along.

It is too bad that everyone we meet cannot be as immediately helpful as that, but everyone we meet is important. The person you meet in Representative Smith’s office today answering telephones might be Senator Jones’ legislative aid five years from now. How many of us have made acquaintances with people locally who have later been elected to represent us in Tallahassee or Washington, DC?

The legislative process itself is one that requires us to build relationships. We need to establish rapport. We need to regularly communicate and we need people to get to know us and the things we are about and what we do. This is not different in regard to people in departments or committees or boards that affect us. These people have been delegated authority and have different kinds of resources at their disposal. Many of them will have the ability to make some decisions that can affect us either positively or negatively, whether it has anything to do with motorcycles or not.

Try to keep everyone on the positive side and discourage negative bickering with the naysayers

Stay safe out there, this can be a deadly time of year on our roadways………JEB

Endings and beginings, ad infinitum

Though I have announce my intentions on other sites and publications and alluded to them here, I'm not sure that I actually "stated" them here. But yesterday I attended my last ABATE meeting as a member. Though somewhat bittersweet, I must stand by what I have said elsewhere, I will not belong to any organization that bills itself as "freedom fighting" organization, that at the state level, rules through intimidation, lies, innuendo and suppression of the rights of it's own individual members to speak out. The ends do not always justify the means (note the "not always". Don't want to get trapped into the exceptions that violate the rule). I was asked at the meeting by another member, if you step down how can we fight to change the system from within. To which my answer was, "in the three years you have been a member what have you done?" And that my friends is, as I see it, the crux of the problem. To many want to throw a patch on their back and proclaim themselves freedom fighters and do little if anything. ABATE would be better served if individuals such as this just joined a "riding" club.. It is the hypocrisy at the bottom that supports those at the top who would take advantage of and profit from such.

That having been said, does that mean I have "given up the cause". Not on a bet. It is my contention that being free of the bureaucracy of an organization that fights bureaucracy some real stuff can get done. And no that doesn't mean I do not support ABATE. I support the original mission ABATES around the country have been founded on. It is toward that end I hope to work. I hope one or two will join me. Keep their knives sheathed (or at least not brandish them when your back is turned). Coward does not equal Freedom fighter (note this is not a condemnation of most persons reading this. However my hope is that those it does apply to will have at least a twinge of conscience).

Now to some important stuff: I have linked in previous posts to some insurance bills that have been introduced in the legislature that can affect all those who ride a motorcycle. Now I ain't necessarily against insurance. I have it. What I am afraid of is a heap of insurance companies are going to be looking for a way to make up for the money they are losing else where and my fear is that it will be done on the backs of "Bikers". You won't be dropping as many bucks on a charity that does nothing to protect your rights if you got to spend whatever extra bucks you have to keep your MC on the road. Now mind you much of that info comes from ABATE of FL. so look it up (as you should anything you read anywhere, including here).

There are three cell phone bills currently sitting in committee in the Fl legislature. Now I have been receiving numerous e-mails re: the insurance issue from ABATE of Florida but few if any re: the cell phone bills (Despite Doc's promise to work on getting one passed). The banning of cell phones is unpopular I know. But the facts are, use of a cell phone while driving (including hands free) is as dangerous as driving drunk. Thats fact, thats proven (check out our link to Motorcyclist against Dumb Drivers for the most accurate data). My suspicion however is that there won't be enough interest in doing anything about it until (as with drunk drivers) enough moms and dads lose a son or daughter to a cell phone impaired driver.

Now in anticipation of any flack I may catch (as I have) re: banning cell phone use while driving is a violation of a persons freedoms, I challenge you. Demonstrate how cell phone use or even driving is a constitutionally protected right/freedom. Of course to do that may entail ones having to read the constitution or the bill of rights. But hey, that could be a good thing.....Ride Free
